Mike Davis Snaps off the Jacoby Tournament in NC

Well i made it downt to Babineau's in Raliegh NC... I went down with my good friend Jason Kirby and his dad Bernie, Steve and my best friend Rodney Leach. Well The field didnt look to bad at first and then walks in BJ Ussery and shortly their after...Mike Davis....well at this point i know im just addding to purse..hehe..but i love to play... well i get a bye the first match and who get drawn together??..yep BJ and Mike Davis...what a match... Bj wins the lag and hits mike with a two pack off the jump...its a race to seven...BJ wins the third match as well...Mike Davis just sits in his chair...no change of emotion..if some guy hit me with a two pack and then get three ahead of me..u would see the concern on my face..but i guess that why he is a pro player..casue when he got chance to shot...DEAR GOD..those three games of BJ disapeared. and he caught up and they traded games..it went hill hill but Mike ended up wining. I talked to BJ afterward he is a pretty nice guy. He said he hadnt played in like 3 months..That guy has the most intensity of any player i have ever seen..he is all focus when he shoots. BJ said that some people think he and a**hole but He was pretty nice to talk to me, and he didnt know me from adam. Mike ran thru the field like a hot knife thru butter. Bernie Kirby held his own..there were 5 five of us from Va that came up to try out but we all knew Bernie had the best shot at getting in the money. Both me and his son should have beat our player..but we didnt. My best friend Rodney drew to Monsters..back to back...the first guy he drew ened up placing second. But my buddy Rodney has a hell of game..and vows to eat him up next time.. Steve snaped off the big break contest so that was awsome. Steve is a great guy. NOW...I will now tell you abut Mike Davis and what i think of him.

Mike Davis is a hell of guy..he was such a pleasure to talk to. He answered any questions i asked and just was a pleasure to watch shoot..And man can he shoot. I will say this he will always remember me cause i kept him laughing..I ended up getting his signature. For those of you that havent played in the Jacoby tournament it was AWSOME..the tournament director was top class ...they started the tournament like it was a nba match up...playing the NBA intro song..and as each table match was anounced they cut that light to the table on...it was great. NOW as for North Carolina players..great god..im gona have to put in some time to come down there and take their money...geeezz...there was an older gentleman named "Peaches"...that man is a solid player and wondeful to talk to...but his son is a freaking MONSTER..they had a ten ball big break and and he just snaps it off like he was making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and runs the rack out. Another fellow whose last name is Champion..is a jam up player as well.. Mike i know you said you just read the forum and dont post much..i hope you read this... I know you gave SHANE VAN DEN BERG credit as being the hope for Americans as the next great player..but Mike in my eyes YOU ARE RIGHT UP THERE...you make me wana play pool better than i have ever wanted to play..you inspired me and my buddies that night. Your attitude and willingness to engage your fans and just have fun made every one there that night proud to be pool players and you showed us all just how beautiful the game is when some like yourself plays it. I am glad you made the choice in life to play pool. I dont have that opportunity to do what you do...but i can live out part of my dreams by watching guys like you shoot. NC..you just wait...Va is coming back down in 4 weeks to Rocky Mount..at GUYS and DOLLS and were gona change the state moto of va that day..it wont be VIRGINA IS FOR LOVERS anymore....it will be VIRGINIA IS FOR POOL PLAYERS..hehehehe

I was fortunate enough to meet Mike Davis and his girlfriend at the recent Maryland 14.1 Open. I also was able to sweat a couple of his matches.

He behavior was that of a consummate pro. Very approachable, friendly, and professional. Pool could use a few more (hundred) like Mike.

Peaches Fuller's son is Mike Fuller - he's definitely one of the top two or three players in NC. But you're right, not only do players come much better than Peaches and Mike, neither do people. Mike also has a full-time job. Actually, I take that back - he has more than a full-time job. He works weeks at a time without a day off, and still manages to play at the highest level.

The "Champion" guy you're talking about was probably Terry Champion, also a top-notch player (and yes, that's his real name).

It's good to see that BJ is feeling good enough to play.
