Mike Dechaine. America's Second Best Player

dechaine 4-0

Sossei is now playing rack checker. He broke and ran 3 plus ranout with bih.

Will anybody bet the field vs dechaine? Strickland, shorty and many other greatplayers.

Dechaine scratches on break. Open table. Sossei should be out here.

mike up 8-3 in a race to 9.

all the shit talkers on here about mike oughta be glad they did not put their money where there mouth is with you.

I thinks he heists him in either. I've been wrong before, but I'd bet a couple thou on Johnny in either format as long as it's a relatively lengthy race.

On neutral ground on a standard Diamond playing 10-ball I think this would actually be fairly close. I don't think Archer has to win that at this point. I would still likely see Archer as a slight favorite, but he does not simply walk away with it IMO.

People seem to forget Mike running 8+ racks of 10-ball against JA a couple years ago, JA shot once, maybe twice in that match...

Does that mean it will happen every time, no. Does it mean that Mike can hang with JA, I think so.

9-4 mike.

a lil safety battle on the 1 ball last rack. jeremy screwed up giving mike a look see on the 1 and mike was runs out.

I see some people discounting tournament results.
If you can't go by cold, hard statistics, what can you go by?
"General impression"? "Feel"? How much is that worth?

I'll take the numbers. Yes, one short race may be a fluke.
But over a series of them, the better player will show.

If Archer is playing better than Mike right now, then it's almost impossibly
'unlucky' that he only finished higher than Mike in a single event.

Unless he's just showing up at half the events in don't-care mode.
In which case, I'd rather have a hungry player on the mosconi cup team.

They still got action if they want it. Go ahead and say he got lucky.

that was not luck smacking that 1 ball in and getting perfect on the 2. never seen so many ...wtf ? on a chat board after that shot lol.

not trying to knock your action. ...just calling it like i see it.

Just like I said, someone will come along ans say Mike got lucky. Pool players, so predictable.

Ok let the hating continue. Done with this thread.

He's one of the best players in Maine, but that's as far as it goes. What has he won besides local tournaments?
He has to hope that good players don't enter. He can't play top pros like Dennis Hatch or Earl. But ask Mike how good he is and he'll tell you, as long as you remain his nut-hugger.

Well, besides local tournaments he won Turning Stone (which had some top tier pros like Archer and Deuel).
He also won the Ultimate 10-ball in 2011, finishing ahead of guys like Appleton, Hatch, Rodney, Niels.
And he won the World Summit of Pool in 2009 taking out Thorsten Hohmann.

In terms of tournament finishes, he's finished higher than Earl in every single event last year.
Earl in his prime would beat him I'm sure, but those days are gone.
Hatch hasn't won anything but local tour stops after 2009, and he lost to Mike in their TAR match, TAR 25.

Pool should have a robust rating system like chess has with the Elo ratings. Other sports have used the Elo methodology to rank players, and it works really well because it is based on sophisticated mathematical models, and not just, "Well, he sure couldn't beat Earl in a race to 100 over three days", and that kind of happy HS.

Yes, and his results, as shown, have proven it over and over. I'd call Archer America's fifth best right now.

Again Tournament wise maybe gambling wise J.A. will make him continue to be a tournament player.

So since there is nothing measurable about gambling, why don't we continue to talk about tournament results? Especially since the Europeans are always brought into the discussion.

Yes, but that's the very premise of the thread, so I agree.

My point in this thread is that dislike for Dechaine has caused many, and especially here on AZB, to ignore the fact that Mike is out-achieving all Americans not named Shane in recent major competition.

I'd go OVER on 70%, too, in a poll but what's 100% is that Mike is America's second most successful competitor since 1/1/2013. Skill level is a matter of opinion, but competitive results are not.

If you take Johnny and Mike at the same age for accomplishments "tournament wins" Johnny is miles ahead of Mike.

And still an old ass Johnny Archer will still shoot a young Mike Dechaines nutts in long race/ahead sets gambling matches.

Mike beat Busti? Man I'm out of here this thread has lost it's mind.

I agree I haven't laughed this hard in forever. If this match ever ever takes place that guy can sale his house cash out his 401k and his bets would be covered.

In a race to 25, score will be 12 Busty, 7 Mike, then 13-9, then 14-14 after that Mike will widen the gap final score 25-19 Mike
If they ever play I will bet $100 on this score

Your covered I want it
