Mike Dechaine's playing shaft

I thought Mike was sponsored by OB. I saw him play recently with a shaft with a black ferrule. I also saw him play on a stream with the shaft with black ferrule. Is that a prototype shaft that OB is working on?
 
I was just watching the OB Challenge on YouTube where Corey and Mike were playing partners 8 ball. They were mic'd up and Corey asked him that question. He said that he needed the perception of seeing the ferrule, but with the wood ferrule it blended into the shaft so he colored it in with magic marker.

On one of the TAR podcasts he said he aimed with his shift also.

OB makes shafts with wood ferrules, as well as shafts with the white plastic ferrules...choice is yours.

Yes, but if you want the "soft, quiet hit" you'll need to get either an OB1 or OB2. Both have stacked maple ferrules.

The OBClassic and OBPro have white plastic ferrules and are described as a clean, crisp hit.

I've got OB2s and don't mind the wood ferrule since I'm looking at the OB anyway.
