I am good friends with both guys, I like them equally and both have season tickets at my house. And both have my highest respect as people not just players. This is bitter sweet for me because of what I just said.

Mike has been comming up strong the past few years, He awalys says "I can feel it in me I have the power to beat anyone", I wish I had that feeling in pool. I had that feeling as a telemarketer so I know what he means, that was the only thing in my life I had that feeling with, some people might never get that feeling I really dont know.

Not to take anything away from Mike, but I think all the travelling finally caught up with Shane, Having a earily match didnt help, 3 tough days with Mika, even though Shane won its lots of work to play Mika, If shane would have got weak in that game Mika could have easly snatched away up until the last 2 hours. Playing Mika is tough action period.

I didnt see the match but I'm very happy for Mike, it was his biggest win yet. I know its not a tournment just a match. But to beat Shane who just won in Nicruga and beat Mika convincenly, SVB seemed un beatable. How could you bet against SVB in that match. then the score 11-3, that's a 100-1 shot for Mike to win that big or to win at all. If he won 11-8 or 11-9 that would have been a good set for Mike, but 11-3 on the TV table day 1, Wow Mike is in the big leagues.

I feel bad for Shane he is going to have to play a pile of matches to win this tournment but I dont count him out. He was tired and had a bad set, he will sleep and go hit some balls, regroup. I know he will do well despite this set back.

this is a awakward post for me to write but I thought I'd share my thoughts, and practice my writig and typing, in the process.

best

You said it all very nicely. Good job....SPF=randyg

I agree, Randy!

Eric, I know it was not easy to write this in the face of your friendship with both players, but when two players draw each other, *someone* has to be a winner and *someone* has to be a loser. There are no "draws," boxing-contest-style, in pool. :o

Great job in putting down your thoughts!

Shane can come back from the 1 loss side, we saw it last year with Mika. Mike may be on a roll at just the right time, and could win it all.

Sorry to be off topic...Fatboy do you think you could shoot me a PM? I see that there is no way to send you a PM anymore. Wanted to ask your advice on something we talked about via PM a couple years ago. If not, my email is npro9b@hotmail.com

Mike has definitely been playing good in recent times, but I would have lost if I would have bet. Congrats to Mike on a great match.

With all due respect to Mike DeChaine, I don't think so, at least not yet. I watched the first half of this match and while Mike was playing very well, he still has to match up with other world-beaters. So his next few matches will really tell the tale.

As for Shane, he has to win his next ten matches to get to the hot seat!

Either way, it will be fun to watch.

I don't think it's close to a 100-1 shot. Mike's an excellent player, and any top player is capable of beating another top player in a short race by a lopsided count (I think a race to 11 is still a short race). It's just the nature of the game.

Corey beat Mika 11-0 in the U.S. Open final, Grady beat Buddy once 11-0, and Earl beat Nick 11-0 when Nick was number 1 in the world. I know of those matches just because they're on Accu-Stats. With the amount of pool these guys play everybody's gonna lose lopsided once in a while.

No. Ten wins in a row now will just get Shane through his current losers' bracket of 32 players (plus later additions). That will still leave 8 players in the tournament -- four on each side. Shane has to win 14 in a row now to get through the losers' side and be in the finals.

I think your right its probably not 100-1 for mike to spot SVB 8 going to 11 the betting line isnt 100 to 1 but its real close, I was just making a point that it was a big win for Mike.

Thanks everyone for the kind words, I have really been working on my writing/typing as hard as my pool game everyday. I spend more time playing pool. But 5 years ago I couldnt write a sentance. Today I made this post as a challange because I knew it would be a test to see If I could pull it off, instead of talking about something thats not as sensitive. I really appericate the complements and if there are complaints please let me know, Im trying learn so I can write books someday.

EP90210@hotmail.com is my email cuetechasaurus or anyone who needs to talk to me, I check it 4-5 times a week. I turned off my PM's here as I couldnt keep up and felt bad about being rude to appear to ignore people, I just didnt have time.

its been done before i'm sure some where at some time in the past, going through the losers side to win a tournemnt, Brandin Shuff did it in that 8 ball tournemnt Mark Griffen had. There were qualifers all over america for it, I just cant remember the name of the tournemnt, it was a Mark Griffen deal. it wasnt a 256 full field either so he didnt have as many matches.

Here is a Terry Ardeno question, Has anyone at the US open ever won it after losing the first match???

Mika did it last year.

Fatboy you're doing a hell of a job. It's a great post from someone who knows both players personal sides.

Keep up the good work with you're writing.

I couldn't write my name in high school and I published a book. There's hpoe for everyone.

I think saying it's a 100-1 shot detracts from Mike's accomplishment.

Spotting someone 8 games in a race to 11 and winning is not the same as winning a race to 11 by 11-3, by the way.

Great post Eric!! Very cleanly written and only on typo that I could see at the end. Writing is like any other skill, practice, practice, practice.

Now back to the match, I watched the entire match and Shane missed a few balls that Mike immediately capitalized on then he built on that momemtum with a few nice runs and a few nice safeties. Overall Mike just played better than Shane today, good luck to both of them as they progress through this tough event.

Take Care

***Nevermind, I see someone already got here.

i agree with you on both points, my math is fuzzy today. I stand corrected, well actually i'm laying in bed my back isnt doing to good-so i'm laying here corrected.

And your right it does take a bit off mikes achievement, i'm just real proud of him and I feel bad for Shane at the same time. Its a brutal world-pool that is.
