Mike Gulyassy and his past accomplishments in the tournament circuit?

I noticed Mike Gulyassy in the list of UPS touring pro's today.

I did not know that he still played on the tour.

I remember meeting him a long time ago at a regional league event, and I think he (or someone else) told me that he was a retired pro (this was way back in 2001 when I met him).

I am curious how good he was in his prime, and who are some of the players that he beat?

Just curious.

I seen this video on youtube (not sure when it was made), and I see that he is a very good player.

Mike beat just about every touring pro in the 1980's at one time or another. His speed was just a little under the very top pros. But he definitely got bid up in the top ten in just about every players auction I saw and I used to work all the pro events in Atlanta in the late 80's and early 90's. I played him once in an event and he put five racks on me. In the 1980s he would have been ranked in top twenty 9 Ball players in the US I think.

Mike is the reigning World Champion Back Pocket 9 Ball Champion.

I watched him give Troy Frank the 8 ball playing 9 ball and it was no contest.

As the other poster stated, Mike was just under the top pros when he played full time and could beat anyone at anytime. His bad back basically ended his career.

Mike Gulyassy was a member of the first two USA Mosconi Cup teams (1994 and 1995).

Mike is the guy who kept the likes of Sigel/Varner/Rempe in check if they have an off day in any event. He was better than Vickery.

You can watch him in action this weekend at wycliffe lanes in wycliffe, ohio were he will be playing in a straight pool tourney.

From his website:

"During this last event, Mike defeated Jimmy Reid, Alan Hopkins, Nick Varner, Eferin Reyes and Dallas West in one day ".

How strong is that??
