For those of you who didn't already know this; Mike Howerton, owner of AzBilliards.com, still plays pool. Some may have figured that Mike hung up his cue long ago to concentrate solely on bringing the rest of the world up-to-the-minute pool news, but that is not the case at all.

Mike has played on and off for various BCAPL league teams in the Phoenix area forever, and this past year he teamed up with a group of his old friends to form a team that has their collective eye focused on competing in Vegas next May. And what's the name of Mike's team? Why, they're The AZB Boys, of course!

Look for The AZB Boys in coming attractions all over the southwest region!
 
Thats nice to know Roger! My best to Mike & the AZB Team!! Mike runs a clean Forum here & its nice to know he is a player as well. Go Team AZB!!
 
Very proud to have Roger Long, Roger's son Trevor, Todd Rowitz, and Randy Thompson on the team with me. Randy is Babe Thompson's son.

Now if I could just drag Chucklez65 out of retirement, I would be set.

That 9-8 match (our last) could be called tough, for sure. We went back and forth all the way to the hill-hill tie. In cases like that, the captains get to choose who will play the case game for their team. I chose myself, as I did not want that pressure put on any of my teammates.

Well, their man made one extremely difficult shot after another to finally end up straight in on the 8-ball. Unfortunately for him, he somehow missed it and left it on the end rail a few inches from the corner pocket. I had 4 balls left that if taken in the proper order would end up being a little tap-and-roll parade to the 8. I did that and left myself with an angle on the 8 that would be a simple inside english shot for the win. Now unfortunately for me; I HUNG THAT SUCKER!!! :mad:

In case anybody is interested, there will probably be a spot open on The AZB Boys team once they get together and vote me off! :eek:

Mendoza told me they used to call you "Bone Crusher" Howerton for your ability to crush your opponents.

But I may have misheard, as he also might have said "Love Muffin" Howerton.

Not sure why it didn't stick?
 
Roger is our team captain and we lost 9-8. If I don't carom off a ball and scratch on my first shot in the last game, then it doesn't get to hill-hill. We all lost games in that match and we lost as a team.

I would rather have Roger giving it 100% as a teammate than a world beater that we couldn't get along with.

Sorry Roger, gonna have to try harder than that to get thrown off the team.

HAHA "Love muffin Howerton" Actually I like the name. Opponents will be laughing so much they won't be able to shoot. On top of that they'll totally underestimate him and then he can drop the hammer. But from what I've read about Howerton it doesn't really matter what his pool name is. Ability is all that matters, names are just for fun.
