Mike Howerton on Upstate Al Turning Stone Broadcast

First of all, thank you AZ for bring us the Shane "Shoot their Balls Off" Turning Stone exhibition.

But... did anyone see Mike on the Upstate Al Broadcast? That was exciting and in all my years here it was the first time I ever saw him.

Here are my observations:

- He looks shockingly normal. After all these years moderating this zoo, what are the odds of that?

- He's quite presentable.

- He's a little camera shy. Maybe JimBo was in the audience and Mike left the Taser in the room.

- I want to go to Arizona just to hang out with him in a beer bar on a Friday after work, play loud Stones music and shoot the shit.

Haha. I didn’t see it but I’ll keep an eye out if the videos come up on YouTube. Do you remember what match was on at the time? I’m always interested in seeing commentators, and most especially in seeing commentators play, though that’s not the case here. But to put my glims on the king of azb would be nice. I always like a face with the name.

Aha!! Good thing I joined before I took a look at The Maker. Jk :) just a normal dude.

I’ve forgotten several times that azb is a whole website besides the forums. I’ve never even searched around. And come to find out Mike started it as an Arizona thing to track the AZ pool scene, hence the name. I always figured it was like A - Z billiards, encompassing all as it were.

I thought the AZ thing was also a to z type of deal. Neat fact that it was not so. Thanks ti Mike for all you do for pool and us here on your site!

It was in the finals - I couldn't find the recorded match.
 
Funny story about Mike

I believe it was 2013 and I was in Vegas to attend the Mosconi cup. This was my first year hanging out with SJM and a host of other notable AZers like Bob J and few others who are no longer with us.I had know idea that Stu was as iconic as he is and after day one games he introduced me to EVERYBODY in the "small world" of pool. Up to that point I had only met Corey and Earl very briefly at an event a few years earlier.

After the third day of the event I took the elevator up to my room to grab my cues as we would go out and play at the areas poolrooms. On the way back down to the main floor the elevator stopped on another floor and in walks a gentleman that seemed familiar to me but I could not place him.

He looked at my cue case and nodded then asked if I were here for the cup and I said I was. I said to Mike "you look familiar" and asked if he was on AZ billiards:o, Mike smiled and said yes I am my name is Mike Howerton. After we separated it hit me who Mike was.:D
