My guess is he'll blow up, have a emotional breakdown on camera about how something happened that shouldn't, and win a little bit of money in the end.

Sooner or later Matusow will blow up in front of camera. My bet is on Ivey, he got a good stack but you'll never know. It looks like the Fossilman win last year was not a fluke, he's still in it and he got a pretty good stack.

Some of us will watch this event on TV beginning next week. Is it absolutely mandatory that you spill the beans and remove the suspense for us? It's OK to have a WSOP thread, but I'd be especailly grateful if you were to avoid giving any results in your thread titles. Thank you for your consideration.

Hope you are real patient

Sorry to inform you SJM but this main event will not be shown next week. That programming is the wsop circuit chamipionship which they will show once a week until Aug. 15, then when that ends they begin showing the many tournaments that lead up to the main event wsop. By the time espn drags it out you will see what is going on today and tomorrow, it will be the middle of November. So good luck. I would rather follow the action almost hand by hand on cardplayer.com. It's better than nutin. Damn you will probably know who is going to Super Bowl by then.

Did someone say something about wanting live updates? Raymer is out, ivey is out, matusow is still in. More to come

Is there a standing list on line somewhere, or payout list for those out of the tourney? A guy from Boston that is (or was!) a real good local pool player has been focusing on poker the last year or two and reportedly was in the last 100 or so...

Actually, the main event starts airing on October 4, 2005. It will continue for 10 weeks.

I don't know who to root for as Ivey has been eliminated :(

Well, even so. . if Matasow does have a breakdown, we'll get to see it all. If nothing else, it'll make for a great final table. There is no doubt the guy has HUGE heart.

Mike Matasow is the guy everyone loves to hate, like Phil Hellmuth....

Mike is currently in 3rd or 4th position in the chip count, the leader has 10 million in chips and Mike has 7 million. They are down to there final 9-players and each is a millionaire!

Part of me is rooting for Mike, but for entertainment sake, I would love Mike to lose some big pots or finish 2nd and watch him blow his stack, like he did in 2004.. But that is part of what draws people in to watch poker- the dramatic sensation it brings and it is real, not some made for "reality" tv...

Good like Mike, Like in pool, keep your emotions in check and think before shoot (or in this case, bet)....

Play will resume at 4pm west coast time 1pm est. You can view all of the updates and logs and chip counts by logging onto www.cardplayer.com for live updates and video feeds.

Him and Gus Hansen have similar playing styles....

What?? I know that people say Gus is a "calculated" player. . he just seems wreckless to me. I can't see how you can compare Phil Ivey and Gus Hansen. Explain, please?

Both Gus and Phil like to play alot of hands and like to see alot of flops. Both will play starting hands like 3-4 off suit or 9-3 off suit and will raise with those hands as well when playing short handed and sometimes with alot of players at the table then most other pro poker players. If you watch the World Poker Tour (WPT) you will see what I mean (every wednsdays at 9pm est) or you can but their dvds at www.worldpokertour.com or on ebay....

Gus is a calculating person, but will play alot more varity starting hands as will Phil. I have followed both of these two players for the last 6 months or so and have read articles of them in Card Player magazine. You can also read about them at www.cardplayer.com and see these articles in their back issues section that are posted for anyone to see and read, just click on the cover of the back issue(s) and the articles are available for free to read, no subscription required. Phil Ivey is a little more of a tight player than Gus is. On the WPT I have seen Gus Hansen call an all in with K-3 off suit and win and this is before the flop against 3 other players at the table.... That is what makes these players so dangerous and more upredictable at the table.

I hope this in info helps...If you get a chance to watch them play on tv, the announcers also point this out about both players......

wow...

you must not be able to tell the difference between these two great players.

First off, Phil doesn't play as many hands as Gus does. Phil is a pretty tight player, but he isn't afraid to put all his chips in with nothing if he thinks the other player will fold.

Gus, on the other hand, plays a wide variety of hands and usually has a good read on the other player(s).

All of it is true. But as you well know in poker, its about reading the other players with each hand that is delt. I seen Phil on tv play a varity of hands. I did state that Phil is a tigher player than Gus. How much tighter does Phil play than Gus. It just depends on a variety of things...

Mike just got beat out....

He had the best hand, and the guy hit a 9 on the river for a straight...i dont know the exact details...but it was a drastic blow, and he was favored in the hand....3 to 1 favorite, and the other guy got lucky!!!

Title: Mike Matusow Eliminated in 9th Place ($1,000,000)
Log: Hand 28 - Daniel Bergsdorf has the button in seat 4, Dannenmann raises to $300,000, and Matusow calls from the small blind. The flop comes 5s-3s-2c, Matusow bets $600,000, and Dannenmann immediately says, "All in." Matusow stops the action to study his opponent. He stands up, leaning out over the table to get a good look at his opponent before calling. Dannenmann shows As-Jc, while Matusow has pocket tens (10d-10c). Dannenmann was semi-bluffing with overcards, and he'll need to catch a four, a jack, or an ace to win the pot.

The turn card is the 4h, and Dannenmann makes a five-high straight to take a commanding lead in this hand. Matusow will need to catch a six or an eight to survive with a straight on the board.

The river card is a 9, and Mike Matusow is eliminated in ninth place, earning $1,000,000.

He walks over to Mark Seif in the crowd, who comforts him, and then the players from the final table all come over to shake his hand. Matusow is composed, but clearly disappointed. He's keeping his composure very well, and there are no outbursts or anger. Matusow is stunned.
