First off, Phil doesn't play as many hands as Gus does. Phil is a pretty tight player, but he isn't afraid to put all his chips in with nothing if he thinks the other player will fold.
Gus, on the other hand, plays a wide variety of hands and usually has a good read on the other player(s).
