Mike Sigel

For the most part, pro pool players are young. Whether it's pro pool players or anyone else that's young outside of pool, the mindset for getting so ill that insurance is required doesn't even enter their minds. It's for older folks and the stats are with them.
I could be wrong and out of the loop, but I don't think the use of prescription drugs or illegal drugs are as great as it used to be
some decades back. Especially with the drug testing going on in pro pool. Booze pretty much the same way.
I could be wrong, but I don't believe matchroom is doing drug testing after the fallout with WPA. Only WPA sanctioned events are subject to drug testing as far as I know.

Fedor Gorst isn't exactly older, he has been reported as having health issues...

IMDB still shows Mike as Color's technical advisor, Richard Price as the credited screenwriter . . . and "actress Christina Sigel" as a waitress in the film, a new one on me!
You can see Chris Sigel walking in the background serving drunks during the “win one more game and you’ll be humping your fist for a long time” scene. You’ll see Ewa Mataya and others in the background as well.

I'd like to see that scene. Can't find it on youtube. You got a link by chance??

I don't remember that line from the movie but it's hilarious! :ROFLMAO:

Did he stop gambling entirely, or just at pool. I have read some stories on here of some of his exploits at the craps table!
maybe just at pool .. he tells a story when young where a gambling night at the pool hall went real bad and he decided that that was the end of his hustling and he wanted to be legit but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t hit a casino in vegas

Thank you! I'd seen Mataya-Lawrence and others but not Chris Sigel.

I think we (at least I) are getting old, I can't believe I'm doing more pool clinics with "That guy Fast Eddie plays next!" . . . next.

What does a technical advisor do in a movie?

In film production, a technical advisor is someone who advises the director on the convincing portrayal of a subject. The advisor's expertise adds realism both to the acting and to the setting of a movie.

At the time the movie was made, who better, who more experienced, and who more articulate than Mike Sigel that lived through all of it in real time? Then you had the consummate pool room trash talker, gambler, hustler/player Keith McCready at the table doing what he does best.

There were three other pro players that had speaking roles in the movie besides Keith. Steve Mizerak (as Duke, Eddie’s first opponent), Grady Mathews (as Dud), and Jimmy “Pretty Boy Floyd” Mataya (as Julian’s friend in the green room).
You are right. I've been a technical advisor for several books and TV shows.

I don't think the pool technical advisors received Color of Money royalties, though.

there are two types of gamblers:
winning gamblers
losing gamblers

one group is far larger and less intelligent
The other group gets called a "nit" a lot. They'll have to wiper their tears with the cash of the other group as they recover from that sick burn.

Sorry... written in error

Why not? He's certainly made a ton of money playing pool, and from all accounts he has invested it smartly. I heard he invested in property. If he did that in my area, he'd be worth more than $5M.

What do you think he's worth?
Possibly a million

SVB 5 million my ass. No way!
He's got loads of sponsors that pay for a lot, if not, most of his expenses and he keep his winnings for himself. Don't quote me on this but it's what I've heard.

Also he probably has invested his winnings In other ventures that Noone knows about. So I've heard 👍👍

yeah I'd say this article has it's fair share of embellishment. Don't get me wrong, Sigel is one of the greats, we all have heard of his record in final matches, but some of the US Open's and WC's wins don't hold water. I'm also a little skeptical on the net worth, but, if he's still living in New York.... eeehhhhhh maybe....
Mike knew how to cherry pick his matches.

How the fk could one 'cherry pick' matches at a tournament with a bracket board?
I think when a player gets to where they hit the pinnacle of their game, and there have been a good number of them in ALL sports, they want to showcase their skills against all comers as the cock of the walk and have zero fear. It's proof positive and a validation for them and the world to see. Go to any sport and pick one person that immediately comes to mind and that would be the one (at the time). To me, Mike was and carried himself that way. No fear and destroy.
