Miserable Night at the poolhall...

Just wanted to vent...

I remembered why I never go to the poolhall on Thursday right around 10pm last night...

So I normally hit up my local poolhall once a week, mostly on a Wednesday but couldnt make it on that day this week so I went last night. I forgot about the crew of Verizon employees/reps/children/whatever that comes in late. Well that crew is now massive. There had to be 50 of them. All of a sudden about 50 20year old yuppies flooded the place. On the front tables, in the side room, f***ing everywhere...

The routine I would normally like to happen is get there about 7:30ish shoot for at least 2 hours straight by myself. Maybe get into some action if it were to arise and I like it or just continue playing by myself on one of the front tables which are all considerably tighter. Well when I first got there I ended up playing some 10ball and straight pool with another guy there (free) and had a good time but it wasnt really the practice I wanted on the tougher equipment I wanted to play on.

When we finished up we talked about cues for a bit and I went to go shoot by myself and that's when all these entitled acting ****s just flooded the place. I shit you not, there was about 50 of them. They had only three tables, 5 or 6 at a time just standing around the tables in each others way. All constantly walking by. Sitting and eating in the chairs at my table... No pool etiquette at all, not that I would expect that from them, but a little etiquette in general would have been nice. In that massive of a group of all like minded 20 year olds, you can forget about any respect for other people there, let alone ones that arent in there group.

They went into the side room, found an unopened Cornhole game. Opened up and just started playing as if it were theirs. It was like a more annoying fraternity decided to have "Pool Night".

After about 15 minutes of playing solo, a guy I normally play cheap with came in. I was already at my limit, as my tolerance for ass-hattery (-OMGWTF) was on tilt, and was getting ready to pack up to leave. The guy asked to play one quick cheap set. I obliged since I came out 2 sets ahead of him last time we played. He got me 5-0. I quit in the middle of last rack. He could tell I was annoyed and I cant blame him for capitalizing on it.

So I know out of all this, I am mostly to blame for my own miserable time. I should have just skipped on Thursday night, but I forgot about the shit-show and I had no idea the shit-show tripled in size. I love this poolhall but I cant help but place some of the blame on them as well. This massive crew of ****tards are a regular occurrence on Thursday night. They had tables available but scattered. They should have placed other people closer together so they could have contained the massive group elsewhere other then the front where the actually pool players and regulars shoot/practice/gamble.

So overall, the night sucked and did not go the way I wanted it too at all. Typing it out to an audience that might understand is a little therapeutic for me.

I'm sure I'm going to get a reply from all the online champions telling me I should learn to block all that out etc etc... Thanks for that advice. You are right.

Any other poolroom you can go to? I think most rooms set aside certain tables for their regulars and serious shooters away from the casual players.

Yeah there are others a little further away. Equipment is great here though. GC3 tables throughout, nice and tight on the front tables, 860 and Centennials for balls. And the reate is only 4.75 an hour.

Just picked the wrong night... I shoot at home most of the week and go out twice a week for practice and/or a weekly tournament.

Maybe I'm just getting crotchety in my old age (37) :D

The person working there has only been there a couple months. A few of the regulars help her out there with advice, this mob was just too big though. Plus I know in the past that they have had problems with them paying the time as well.

I know for a poolhall, this is great for business, but damn it sucks for the regulars.

Been there. Ive thought about getting caution or police line tape myself. But then ill probably get teased for being an antisocial *****,lol.

Your room sounds exactly like my room. GC 3's with the tight pockets up front. You from Pa.?

I know where you were & that is a debacle when they come in but the new girl while nice knows nothing about how to handle that. She has never worked in a hall before & it shows. The guy they let go knew how to handle those kinds of situations

Its more than going to another pool room. I get the total frustration with the situation. We have tons of rooms here but there's only one place I prefer to go to. I would have just come back a different night and saved all the headache.

I seen your problem right off the bat. You said you were playing with yourself for two hours straight. Two straight hours is too long for anybody. What you need is a girlfriend, or at least a sympathetic waitress.
And that glory hole, or corn hole, or whatever it was you mentioned. That ain't the way to go either, believe me. They tried that in an upstairs room here at my pool room and it was nothing but trouble. Fights would break out over hole time, and they had to hire extra help just to clean up the mess. It just wasn't worth the trouble.
Find yourself a nice bar with one small table and start drinking heavily. You'll be fit as a fiddle in no time. :)

Agreed. If we are thinking about the same guy (R). He is a pool player... he would have known to keep those jackasses separated.

We know each other? PM me.

I won't lie, the lack of etiquette alone would have made me leave a lot earlier. Thanks for being honest with your appraisal of the situation you encountered as well.

I won't blow sunshine up where it don't go with that whole block em out stuff, cause you already know that. You already know probably too what to do different next time or what have you.

My only advice is don't let people who don't appreciate the game the way you do steal your joy for it. Don't give up hope, and keep being an ambassador for the game, because one of those 20 year olds may be watching you and how serious you take the game. One time when his friends have moved to the corn hole or something he may come up and watch you, even ask you for advice. I know it sounds improbable and irritating, but that will be your moment to recruit another player to go from occassional banger to potential new ambassador. Keep shooting and good luck!

I get what you are saying, but ultimately I really don't care if they appreciate the game or not, just have some decency for those around you in general. Have some respect for other peoples things.

If this is the pool hall that I think it is why didn't they put them in the back of the house....way back.

You should watch some videos of the gambling matches in the Phillipines...the rail birds will be all up in your space, although they are pretty quiet during the game.

I like what Carolina Giant said about not letting them steal your joy for the game but not so easy to ignore what you described.

A good chance them not being actual pool people had them unable to appreciate that serious play requires serious concentration.

Maybe a silver lining might be that if they are a regular Thursday night crew and have grown to 50 people that, hopefully, this is a boost to your favorite room's cash register.

That said, I totally agree that mgmt should know to segregate such customers from the real players. A good house man doesn't let this happen.

best,

I subscribe to those youtube channels. The difference is those guys are sitting around watching and have an appreciation for the players in the game. The kids in the poolhall last night didnt seem to have an appreciate for pretty much anything.

Yeah, I said in a previous post that I'm sure it was great for the business. I love this poolhall and really wish them the best, but I'm not sure if this crowd is going to do more bad then then good, especially if it spreads to more nights of the week and if they continue to do whatever they want (like open up a packaged game of cornhole and just start playing it like it was theirs).

As of right now, I think its just Thursdays though. That's the only night I used to see them there. That was my normal night a while ago and I switched it to Wednesdays due to this group, just couldnt get out on Wednesday this week and I forgot about them.
