Mitch Ellerman Ripped Off at Galveston Tournament

I think the facts are 2 people took part in a raffle for Ashley Furniture product, perhaps the person doing the raffle was a middle man, perhaps he works for Ashley or the promoters. I do not have all the facts and was not slamming anyone, just would like to see the 2 people who won get what they deserve, people bought raffle tickets so IMO to take peoples money with promise of winning something and then giving them the run around is really wrong. Perhaps its not Ashley Furnitures fault nor the promoters, in the end we will see.

to pacain

I can get you pool cues at 35-40 percent off retail. And the mark up on furniture is a lot more than that. I believe that this thread started out targeting the wrong people involved. Threads should be corrected, for the benefit of pool. And Ashley Furniture is not cheap. I am glad that I read this whole thread, before acting. I believe if Ashley was involved, it would have been resolved already. Just my .02 cents worth.

The question I have is was the furniture at the tournament, or was it to be shipped out to the winner by the company that has store all over? If it was at the tournament what happened to it? and if it was to be shipped why was it not? Anyone at Galvaston care to comment on if the Dinning Room set was at the event?

What I do know is 2 people won items in a raffle, now these items are in someones home and the winners are left hanging.

I certainly think that if you were to have someone do a Raffle for a cue company who was sponsoring an event and donated the cue or what have you in a poolroom. If the people in the room all bought tickets and then the winner was due to receive the cue via mail or whatever and did not get it then it would reflect poorly upon the room and company unfair or not.

I do not think Ashley would do something like that nor the promoters, so I am not asking people to blame Ashley or the promoters and my original post did not do that, its just trying to find out what went wrong with the raffle and why do the winners have nothing?

Take it for what this is worth, but Ashley Furniture had absolutely nothing to do with these problems. What really sucks is that they would have obviously been far better off never being involved.

"No good deed goes unpunished."

Your probably right, Ashley Furniture probably gave the furniture as part of the sponsorship and then things got funny so to speak. It should be a crime to hold a raffle and not give the prizes promised.

Actually it is a crime and can be prosecuted. It happened out here at a charity raffle for a high end car (Mercedes). The raffle was fixed, the perpetrators got caught and someone went to jail. This situation is a little different but still could be considered criminal. I think the two winners should contact the local authorities.

thats true, We sell furtnature in catalogs for ususally 4 times our cost, and its still cheap, and we dont import. I have a friend who sells furnature to hotels and cruise ships and sometimes he makes 85%, so he pays $150 and sells it for $999. That biz has very high margins, but is suffering right now.

.

I knew a guy who raffled off a Lambo worth about $125,000 at the time, he sold over $200,000K in tickets. He hired a magician to draw the winner, the fix was in, he never got caught on it. I asked him about it 5 or 6 years later. He admitted it to me that he riffed the thing, he was broke(over leveraged), he is now going up for sentancing in March for embelizing over $8,000,000. Some guys never learn.

If "Ashley Furniture" entered into an agreement with the promoters and allowed them to use their name in the promotional raffle, then they are somewhat responsible, and the least that they should do is to hold someone's feet to the fire and make them pay off the promised amount to the winners.

If the promoters bought the furniture and promoted the raffle to show that they, (Ashley) would be giving away the furniture without Ashley's permission, then the promoters should be legally obligated to pay off, and this should be actionable by Ashley and/or the winners of the raffle.

Just my opinion......
But, then again, what the hell do I know.......................

Looks like you were right on this one. It also looks like the Galveston Tournament was not as advertised, with payouts less than they were supposed to be.

I hope Mitch gets his furniture.

I call em as I see em.

It is a shame that Mitch's furniture is now used.

Come on Lenny - give up the name of who has it

Ok - give us the address of the house and then I will do a reverse lookup to get the name.

(if you send me the info in a PM of who has it, I promise  not to tell)

Based upon that statement above I would say it is time for Mitch Ellerman to pick up the telephone, and call the Cops where the crime happened, and left the Cops do what they do best.

Investigate, and decide if Mitch has been wronged, is a crime victim, and go after the person or persons who wronged Mitch. As if the value of the Dinning Room Set is 8k, it a felony.

I have it from a credible source that the furniture is now residing in the home of one of the promoters of the event. Not too cool imo. He needs to do the right thing by Mitch. I think the other guy accepted a settlement.
