Hey guys, I watch ESPN billiards daily and I've recently been wondering what history Mitch has. As I'm sure you all know he commentates on almost every match and seems somewhat knowledgable in the game but I've heard Hopkins poke jokes about Mitch's lack of skill quite a few times which made me wonder what his deal is. Also how did him and Ewa end up married?

magic!!:p !!

He's a true gentleman...and a wealthy movie star. Not a bad combo in the eyes of most ladies.;)

He first hit it big in the 80's with a tv show called Not Necessarily the News....then made some bad movies.....

I can't stand him myself. All you ever hear is what a great shot or you are getting to watch the greatest pool players on earth and the Striking Viking ad nauseum.

Hey now Cop Rocks ruled !!!!!! lol

Well I'll give him credit for changing his last name LOL

And he was on Macgyver so you know he can make a bomb outa bisquick or maybe he was the one being blown up lol.

And as for getting hitched too hottie Ewa, the world works in mysterious ways lol.

Har - Not Necessarily The News? I vaguely remember that show. Only two folks I remember were Stuart Pankin and Annabelle Gurwitch. Yum (Annabelle, not Pankin).

Geez 1983. I forgot how long ago that show was on.

His story is in the current Pool & Billiards magazine. I thought it was interesting that he worked with the original Saturday Night Live cast.

I've seen Mitch a lot at the pro events during the televised portions, but one time I saw him watching Ewa play early on in the tournament and I was surprised how he acted. He would hit his fist on the table when she missed and act disgusted sometimes. When she had a nice run, he was clapping and happy. Sounds like everyone else, I suppose, but I didn't like it when he showed his disgust if she missed. It seemed unsportsmanlike to me, especially snce everyone knew who he was. Maybe I was judging him too much. When I mentioned it to a few players, they said he's always like that.

Otherwise, he's always been a great guy and easy to talk to and very friendly.

I always thought he looked exactly like that guy from NNTN!!! Glad to hear that I was right!! Man, what memories! The first week we hooked up to HBO, I watched that show every time I could find it in the schedule!! The 80's!! That was back in the day when I was still young and sexy!!

I was going to ask is he played in 90210 as well, but i see that the link that johnson put up that mitch has a twin brother matthew that is the actor.

mitch laurance

to me he is a good person on billiards but i think that he and ewa and mark wilson i think three people could do a better job calling the action or go with mitch ewa dawn hopkins and allen hopkins and mark wilson :)

thanks

Mitch is a great guy and does a competent job on the pool shows he works on. He is terrific at warming up the crowds before air time and doing pre match interviews. I have to say I'm still a little uncomfortable with his actually pool commentary, because his knowledge of the game is lacking.

I'd love to see a Jerry Forsyth or Danny Diliberto do that job. Because they know pool so well. Okay, I'll say it. I enjoy doing commentary as well, and think I do a pretty good job. I have been complimented on the Accu-Stat videos and WPC matches I've commentated on. And that makes me feel good.

I watched the show 'The Riches' last night on FX. Torwards the beginning of the show, I guy gets in a car accident, and The Riches assume his identity. Well, the actor playing the guy in the car wreck look like Mitch Lawrence.

I guess it was his brother Matt.

Seems to bring a festive atmosphere with him, and is a competent commentator.

People may want to be critical of him, but wait until you see someone doing a bad job of commenting to see the value he brings.

I would be so stoked if Danny D did commentary for ESPN.
