Pending sale .......Hello fellow Azers, here is an opportunity to own one the most highly anticipated cue makers in the history for a real good deal (since this GS has been modified).
The letter of authenticity explains it all, mr. barry confirms his dad's cue but not windows nor the ivory diamonds, which adds a cool look to the cue. At this point I have no idea who added the windows and the diamonds, but I did not care because I can have a high end looking Szambotti player that hits real solid and roll straight for less money.
Now to the specs:
Butt: rolls straight, 16.02 oz no dings or scratches
Wrap: grenn linen, tight
Shaft1: 3.4 rolls straight, 12.5 mm
Shaft2: 3.6 tiny woble (had to mention it), 12.7 mm
Joint: stainless steel, piloted
I am not sure if it is 5/16x14 or not, it is whatever mr Gus used back then.
If someone knows it would be apreciated.
I am taking offers as I am not real sure about the value of this cue. So please pm me or send all your inquiries to hanikamani@gmail.com I check my email frequently.
Now to the pics:

To be honest you hurt the value when you had the inlays added and now it is worth less!
It has a 5/16-14 pin ....Good luck on selling it,too bad it is modified by someone other than Gus or Barry!

Ron, i dont believe he had the inlays added. This cue has been around for some time....think saw it at sbe about 10 years ago.

i tried to read the authentication " standing on my head", and i see no where does it include the inlays

Do you have a ballpark price your wanting for this Gus cue

You guys might think I'm crazy but...

What if Barry agreed to remove the ivory, and windows, and replaced them with his own ivory and windows? Counter productive yes, I know.

Would it still be considered "altered by a non-szamboti"?

Or, would it then become "altered/corrected by szamboti"?

the thought just popped in my head, and to the OP, good luck with your sale, I will remove my silly post at your request.

That doesn't work so good. The cue has been finished to final specs. If you add inlays you have to take the cue down to flush them and then the cue will probably feel too small. As a matter of fact, that probably happened when the cue had the inlays added the first time.

Yep Kev,

I knew I was forgetting that little tidbit. :p. Wouldn't work. I officially recant my previous post. nice catch.

The seller is offering this cue at a "real good deal" yet is taking offers because is not certain of the value...doesn't make sense to me???

If you have a good lathe and good centers to work from, the amount you'd have to take off would be insignificant. Not any more than a complete refinish would remove. That being said, It's seldom a good idea to add inlays to a previously made cue, but it's usually a matter of economics or not doing any harm to someone else's design. Will cost much more than it will raise the value of the cue(if at all). It is customary to cut your inlay pockets when the cue is slightly oversize, glue it up and turn it to final size. In any event I can see of no good reason to add inlays to a Gus! I don't even think Barry would do this for someone. With only the pics in this thread I can't really tell if it looks that bad, but if the inlays were added I'd consider having Barry turn down the butt sleeve and replace it with plain Gabon ebony. Preferably from Gus' old stash.

That's a real good idea, then you are just left with non-Szam prong inlays.

:rolleyes:What everyone failed to mention, that this was common practice for years. I know of probably one of the greatest cue sales guys that added inlays to a number of cues.

In fact, I know for a fact that many older cues here were "upgraded" with more stuff. There was a Blackboar cue that shows up about once a year for the last few years and it always causes quite the stir.

The good thing about Gus' documentation that it makes is easy to verify and confirm.

Acting like this a rare occurance, is where I get the giggle.
