It's pretty much standard practice that if your the weaker player in a matchup, you want the race to be as short as possible, if your the stronger player, you want the race to be as long as possible.

So let's say you are playing a huge money match against a player of absolute equal ability. Your family home is on the line. In terms of playing history, achievements, current results/form and overal pedigree, they are your absolute twin. How long would you want the race to be ?

I would want a race to 25 frames. Long enough to get your stroke in and for luck to not be a factor, but not too long that your concentration starts to wane.

race to 100 over 1 day or 2 days at the most.

I would say it would have to be a medium length, Im not that great, but when im shooting with a comparable skilled friend ive noticed race to 5 he wins, race to 9-11 i win, and when messing around for long periods its pretty even it ends up 50/50. So if if was for my house i would be all over a long match as it would be a fair challenge.

what game?

If I had to play for everything I had I would want the race to be 100 over 2-3 days... You can't race to 13 and go double or nothing because you went bust on the first set.. That's why the question is a little deeper than the title....

I personally like races to 23. I just gave a guy 9 games in a race to 23 games and lost 23-22. We were playing ten ball, we played again and be wanted the breaks and 5 games and got him 23-14 playing nineball so I think it depends on what game. He just out broke me in ten ball once making 5 balls on the break, and didn't get out.

If I was big time and playing for thousands of dollars a race to 50 would be the way to go.

LOL if you are playing a game where the family home is on the line; it really doesn't matter because you are an idiot.

First off

No 2 players are exactly equal in skill, there are always differences whether it be in kicking, banking, combos, etc..

But to humor you, I would say a race to 21.

When I gambled every every night I liked 9-ball for $10-$20 a game and pay after every game. Seeing 3 $20's leave my pocket in a row never bothered me. Some people lose focus paying that way. Now if it was $50 a game I could lose focus.. Johnnyt
