Moori vs Kamui

I've been playing with a Kamui Black SS for several months but decided last night to install a Moori Medium. Prior to the Kamui, I had played with Moori's consistently since the Moori III was introduced. I had forgotten how much I like the hit and consistency of the Moori. Yes, I'll have to trim the edges one time in a week or so (Moori will mushroom). But I won't have to worry about the glazing of the Kamui and the inevitable miscue on the critical shot of the match.

Now, I have to place my order for lots of Moori's...

If you bought the $30 Kamui tip scuffer, and the $30 Kamui chalk, you wouldn't have to worry about miscues with the $30 Kamui tips. Problem solved.

Yep. And that combined costs more than my Chinese mass production cue, which has my pressed elkmaster on it, and I only miscue if I stroke the CB badly.

:p

There is absolutely no shortage of Moori in the USA nor is Moori going out-of-business. They are humming along just fine producing the best selling layered tip in the world.

Supplies are steady and in stock for immediate sales with various resellers.

Thanks Joe. Nice to know, thanks for clearing that up.

KAMUI Black Soft

Kamui black "soft" doesn't glaze over quite as quickly, once every couple months it will need scuffed @ most .. Nor will it ever mushroom more than twice in the entire life of the tip..

Just to be clear,,Kamui black ss is to springy for my taste, and kamui black hard hits like a brick, I wouldn't recommend either of those tips.. <-(jmho)

I used to be a loyal Moori tip enthusiast myself, but now I prefer the Kamui tips, over the Moori tips.. The constant mushrooming of Moori became a hindrance for me..

Just food for thought ,Try Kamui black soft ,or Kamui black medium, before you pause with Moori for some time..

Question about the pressed Elkmasters mentioned

Autist,

I read posts from time to time about a few fellows who prefer playing with a pressed Elkmaster far more than with Kamuis, Mooris and any of the other new layered tips. I believe I ought to give that a try instead of just continuing to wonder about how the altered Elkmasters play. I have plenty of the Elkmasters that I put aside about 10 years ago, then began experimenting with Kamuis and Everests.

What playing and endurance qualities do you find with the pressed Elkmasters?

Also, do you cinch the vise down pretty firmly then leave the tip sit in the vise for a few hours?

I'm fairly certain you don't soak the tip in any liquid prior to pressing; is that correct?

No offense to anybody that uses or likes Kamui tips but they are all fracking shite!! I had a Kamui soft tip and it hit like a brick and gave nothing but than that. So I went back to my normal Moori medium and jumped 2 balls or better :yeah:

I have been playing with Moori's for over 10 years now and have experienced ZERO mushrooming. Trimming the edges one time a week (??????!!!!!)

Maybe you guys have fake Moori tips or something - ?.

I play with Moori tips and the Kamui Black SS.

Realy , I would say its the second most over rated tip out there ,

I used Moori H before. I had miscues sometime during the league even tho I chalked it with Blue Diamond chalk. I switched to Kamui Black M 5 months ago and it is serving me so well. Now I feel more confident when doing hard spin shots and miscue less frequently than before. Don't know if my Moori was fake or not but I am totally happy with Kamui tip right now

I have seen many of the expensive tip users quietly going back to Triangle and the other old stand-bys. No one wants to come out and say "Oh, I spent $50 on a tip and install and it was stupid." Spend that much and you tend to justify your purchase.

Over-priced goods depend on their customers being too embarrassed to criticize them. C'mon, it is a hunk of glued leather. How much should that cost? And how much for a cube of chalk? I have seen sucker-time hit this market before. Anybody remember the Sardo Rack? The market regains its sanity over time and these guys all just go away.

I've installed hundreds of Moori's. When installing, I'm very careful to use a sharp blade when trimming the tip to match the ferrule. I always burnish the sides if the tip. I generally have to do a slight trim after 2-3 weeks of play to remove the mushrooming. After that, no more mushrooming.

With the Moori, I don't see the glazing and miscues I do with the Kamui. I shot several racks last night with my new Moori and it shot great. Just like I remembered.

The problem I have with the Triangle's and LePro's is the lack of consistency and quality control. I'm lucky if I get 10-15 good tips out of a box of 50. And it's no fun to install 2-3 tips just to have to cut them off and start over. I will admit though that the good LePro's are great tips.

I charge $25 to install a Moori and they play well for 6 months or longer. Fiend of mine has been using his for 18 months and he's still happy. Not a lot of money for a quality, consistent tip.
