More Efren's magic

Here's a shot Efren just played on a tape I watched. Just amazing, he wasn't happy with the position he played, he needed to go around the table from 3 to 4, but the 9-ball was blocking the way. Plus, he needed to shoot the shot left-handed. The situation:

START(
%Cn3W5%DC9P6%FK5I0%GU4Z1%Hg0P7%Ir5O5%Pi1W1%eB3a5
)END

Any good ideas ? He could just try to carom the 9-ball in, but that was not enough for Efren. Here's the shot Efren played, left-handed, 100mph (at least  ) ! Simply amazing cueball control...

START(
%Cn3W5%DC9P6%FK5I0%GU4Z1%Hg0P7%Ir5O5%Pi1W1%Ul9W0%Vi7W1%Wr8Z7

%ar8P4
)END

He actually played the position off the 9-ball and making the 9-ball was just a bonus because he played perfect position for the 4-ball. The left english took the cueball around the table... More amazing was the fact that he fired this in shooting left-handed !

Stop pretending that you've never done that! He knew the 9 had a good chance to go, but couldn't rely on it- he had to play shape.

Oh, and since, unlike you, Efren isn't 4m tall, he had no choice but to go lefty- a skill you have no need for !

Against Davenport at the finals of Pro Tour Championship back in '95. Efren shot this left-handed and just killed the cueball down to the 8.
Nick Varner was laughing at Buddy Hall at the commentary booth.
Nick asks Buddy what kind of stroke that was.

Remember this one?

In the finals of a Sands/Reno(?)tourney against Earl, Efren was running out at hill-hill and hooked himself to leave this:

START(
%HK8O0%Ie9S7%Ph8T3

)END

after looking it over, he shoots this:

START(
%HK8O0%Ie9S7%Ph8T3%Wa8E3%Xh9S9%YP6X7%Z`0E1%[L6Q1%\N9Z2%]D4D9
%^J8N3%eA6a2%_\8L5%`T8D0%aL5O4
)END

winding up with a hanger on the 9 ball.

No offense to Efren, and there is no doubt he does alot of amazing things, but that particular shot in the OP would be shot the exact same way by most pro's. It is kind of obvious and clearly the way you are "supposed" to shoot the shot. There are alot more tricky shots I have seen Efren do over the years that truly impressed me with his genious in coming up with the best shot. This is not one of those times though.

I believe there were 3 more balls on the table. He kicked one ball in, made another ball and got a little funny on the 8, drew it to the 9 and Earl conceded with class.

You're probably right. I just remember the kick taht got him inline to run-out. Thanks for the refresher.

He tried to play safe on the five but clipped the eight in by mistake leaving the layout below, even Earl was impressed.

Efren ...

I am sure that Efren has his times when he just figures
on getting a good hit on the ball, and happens to make it.
It just happens to him a little more than us ... lol

I would almost like to start a little 'Efren shot club' in AZ to
just study his outs and shots he makes in different events.
I find it very interesting, and his shot selection seems very
logical to me, although sometimes I do get surprised by him.

Ok, I might have had the same idea. Who knows ? But surely my execution wouldn't have been as good as Efren's. No way. :p

And yes, despite being 4m (that's what, 13' ?), I still use my lefty. Hardly ever I use the rake. Except in the garden, falltime...

Thanks for many good shots displayed here. Efren is the magician and I predict he will continue shooting great for decades, his eye surgery seemed to be a success.
