TX Poolnut said:How do you compensate the players for using their likeness and name to sell your pictures? I have a bunch of videos that I would love to make a profit with, but I don't know how to go about getting the necessary permission from the players that are on my tapes. I'm just curious what you have to do to use names and likenesses. I saw your setup at Las Vegas and was really impressed with the display.
Rick S. said:Sometimes, I'll offer them a free poster, or whatever they want. I'll ask permission to use their likeness for display purposes only.
Some of the Pro's have signed releases for me as well.
Then again, it's free PR to many of them.
Thanks for the compliments on the booth.

Are you free to sell the rights to any of the pictures for other uses, I.E.. they become very famous as a result of the IPT, and someone wants to put them on coffee mugs or tee shirts or something?
MacGuy said:I wonder if the IPT themselves may now claim exclusive rights to their players images? I have zillions of pictures and I wouldn't mind trying to capitalize on some of them but would be a little afraid without an iron clad agreement in my pocket. I don't think I could start selling hats with Mosconi's picture without the families permission.
Rick S. said:95% of my photos are taken during live matches. Rarely, are the pros posing for photos. I much prefer to shoot during 'the heat of the battle' to capture emotion. You know that old 'fire in the eye' thing.
There really isn't any 'standard' photographer agreement. It's however, and whatever you have to do. A photographer won't gain full rights to a photo unless a release is signed. Once that happens, your able to do anything you like with the images.
I'm not sure of how the IBT works. I do know I was asked to quote a price on X amount of IBT Player Posters, by the IBT. So, apparently they are interested as well. Hopefully we can work something out...I have been trying to build my portfolio with more IBT players.
