I know these questions will be answered soon, but I would like to know:

1. Will we have guest passes for all the tournaments?
2. Rules - BCA, call shot, call pocket, rules on early 8's, etc.
3. Equipment - shortest length of playing cue allowed, Stretch System allowed, Jump bridges allowed, etc.
4. How far down will payouts be?
5. Dress code - PLEASE allow open-toed shoes for women! I guess you answered that in our email.
6. Is there anything we need to know about the media - rules of conduct or not, etc.
7. Tournament format. 10 groups of 15 with a woman and HOF in each group?
8. Can we break using the end rail?

Thanks for any info you know so far that isn't on the website yet, I know everyone is working feverishly behind the scenes to make this happen.

Please be patient. The moment these things are final they will be on the web site.

Like I said in an earlier post on another thread, patience is just not my strong suit. That's why I am always firing at my hole in one pocket! lol

I will be a good girl and wait.

my guess linda, is they want to make the rules as tough as possible, so i believe the rules will be:

1- every shot must be called.
2-no slop shots
3-foul on all balls
4-a foul is ball in hand behind the head string.
5- no hit on the 8-ball when your on the 8-ball is considered, your on 1, if you fail to hit the 8-ball on your second consecutive time at the table, you lose.
6-a stale mate can only be decided by the ref.
7-there will be no limit on how many saftey's one might play, and no limit on not hitting the correct ball, unless your on the 8-ball.
8-an 8-ball on the break is an automatic win
9-an 8-ball on the break and a scratch is an automatic loss
well, there you have it, that's my opinion, let's see what the "offical" p.s anyone at the sigel jones match? if so, what were those rules? i'm sure ours will be identical.

Regarding your first rule - I hope they don't have the nitty call shot rule. It should be call pocket. I lost a game of 8 ball once at a tavern where you had to call every nick and ding off other balls and every rail by kicking over and back for a hanging ball close to the end rail. Because I didn't call the 2nd rail that the cue ball barely grazed at the same time it hit the 8, I lost!!!!

I would also like to know if it will be open after the break, which gives a huge advantage to the breaker. If it was alternate breaks, it wouldn't be so bad, but you are what you are is more old school and I hope that's what they go with, purely because it would even out things a 'little' bit, by making the good players have to go for whatever was made on the break. Of course, I also believe you shouldn't be penalized for making a ball on the break, so whatever they do, it will be ok by me.

And the all ball foul rule is ludicrous. Being short, I am always accidentally touching a ball.

What's wrong with rules that favor better players?

If anyone can't cut the mustard there's always the APA. Pool has gotten horrible over the years changing to accomodate the weaker player. Thats fine for leagues and weekly tournaments but to try and level the playing field when its so called "PRO" events is ludicrous.

The tougher the rules the better, I didn't apply for the IPT in time but when I found out about it I did apply on the alternate list. For the amount of money it is, I WILL be going to the OPEN events and not looking to just do fair or cashing in, I'll be looking to win and my chances are better the tougher the rules are.

Foul on any ball leads to a lot of problems. I used to play straight pool in tournaments when that was the rule and it was always a problem. I would see a guy bump a ball and the ref didn't, or you get called on moving a ball and you know you didn't. The ref is always trying to make a decision and many times he seemed like he was making a guess or something. It's just a bad rule. The worst is the ref hanging on your shoulder watching your every move often in your line of sight or bent over looking under you arm from like a foot away. It adds nothing positive to the game, Fouls on the cueball only is much better. The best test of a rule is to play by it and as you see they have never gone back. CBF's only is the best way for everyone. I think one of the main reasons also is most tournaments you don't even have a ref anymore except maybe in a final and then just to rack the balls. You would need a whole slew of trained ref's. I have played in tournaments with ref's who didn't even know the rules you had to explain them to him after he makes some stupid call. You can't count on a player to call a foul on themselves either, remember Earl?

I totally agree CBF's only. I was called at World's for my hair grazing a ball! I think if the touching does not alter the shot or the outcome, it should be opponent's option to put it back. Btw, I like tough rules too, just fair!

If the referee is incompetent, then you're in trouble. Competent referees are hard to find. With a million bucks on the line, maybe they can find a referee or two who knows what he/she is doing.

But if the referee is competent, all ball fouls is a much better way to play. Further, it is good exercise for you to learn to play without bumping balls.

It's fair to call all fouls. It's much fairer than the "put it back" option.

I can see the theory behind the rule, it's just that it makes me crazy where bar players are looking under you to make sure your boob or your shirt is not touching a ball which I believe is a form of sharking. Another girl got called for her bracelet touching a ball. Come on! We aren't even moving the balls.

There are two famous stories of fouls costing a championship. One with Jimmy Marino's hair touching a ball and another with Art Cranfield. He needed two and the balls were right there but he picked up a piece of chalk and in the course of chalking dropped the chalk, it hit the cushion and bounced on the table touching a ball. Crane then ran out on him. I had one happen to me with an incompetent ref. The guy I was playing cut a ball in and moved a ball with the side of his stick. The cue ball went around three rails coming back almost exactly where it was for the next position and touched the ball he had moved causing a foul. The ref is not even watching any more and has his back to the table. I am looking around to see if anybody saw what happened and surprisingly the other player called a foul on himself and I didn't have to cause a beef. The ref had no idea what the guy was talking about when he told the ref what happened.

You just don't have that many people who can really referee a match. A lot of tournaments just have the players serve double duty and ref matches. I was refereeing a match once and the two guys had me racking and re-racking the balls every rack. First one didn't like it or the other didn't like it. I finally had enough and throw the rack on the table and told them to rack themselves and left. I could give either of these guys the 7 and I didn't feel like hearing anymore of their sh%t. I was just doing a favor anyway, I was still in the tournament.

Who's to say if it alters the shot or outcome or not????

If I'm jacked up over a ball why don't I just put my hand on the ball to use as a bridge. One of the great "bar rules".

How about putting the cue ball a butt width from the rail for players that have trouble shooting cue balls frozen on the rail? Another great "bar rule".

If you think I'm being silly, how about this story.......we were at an 8-ball tournament and they stated the rules were written down and they "WOULD NOT BE CHANGED FOR ANY REASON". I run out a rack where the 8 is surrounded by his balls and I call the Director over to watch the hit....I go by the balls and act like I'm lining up a kick on the 8 and "accidently" move his balls out of the way. The other guy starts hollering and the Director goes to move them back and I say WHOA WHOA WHOA!, the rules say they go back...AFTER... the shot. They grab the rules and look and he says they do go back after. I just wanted to prove a point (I'm not that much of an idiot) and let them put the balls back if they changed the rule. They changed it.

We need to bring this passion of ours UP a notch. Make players RISE to become better not bring players DOWN to make it equal. We need to make good players great, we need to make great players greater. BE REWARDED FOR PLAYING GOOD! You can get or give handicaps gambling.

Lets all be together with the IPT and make it something SPECIAL.

Bring your games UP, UP, UP. Good luck to all.

In your example if you shot and the cue ball passed over where the ball you moved was it would be a foul.

And if it didn't?????

I am assuming you moved the balls so you could shoot. If nothing travels where the balls were or they didn't interfere with anything then they would just go back after the shot. In many cases intentionally moving a ball is a foul.

In what case isn't it???

My examples were just to make a point about crappy rules.

Why don't we just make it so the BETTER player is REWARDED for being better. It's unfortunate if some people are...too short, too shaky, too big breasted, too big bellied, too handicapped, etc. etc. to be great players or champions but thats life. Life isn't always fair. Good things don't always happen to good people. Hard work doesn't always pay off.

If this is to succeed and mean something, we NEED the players to get better and better and better. It's not that you were able to beat so and so, it's more that you PLAYED GOOD. I've felt better when I've played good and lost, than when I've played bad and won. (well not always)

I just read an article in which Mike Sigel was proud of never having been called for an object ball foul in all the years he played in 14.1 championships. He also said that "cue ball fouls only" at 9 ball were pitiful (or something like that). I think most of the object ball "non-fouls" occur because the players are careless and they have become careless because of the lax rules.

When I play snooker or carom billiards, it is always "all fouls." That's what the rule book says. There's rarely a problem.
