More Youtube videos. Free marketing, free entertainment, no fuss, sorry Russ

I found another company is jumping on the Youtube bandwagon to advertise their products, while providing entertainment. Just like Scaramouche's post about BClub's postings, here's another list of free pool matches.

I find that doing things this way, is just a free marketing tool, and is NOT detrimental to the growth and sales of a company. If anything, people would see these videos, and go buy their products.

I can't see how certain people would complain about free stuff saying "I just spent $400 on Accustats videos" just to find them posted on Youtube for free when they were posted by a partner that helped to advertise for Accustats.
We must live in a state of capitalistic controlled fascism when free is bad.

Not quite sure you did a good enough job targeting me with this post.

Perhaps you could tell me my breath smells bad, and I dress funny?

Or maybe that I stroke like an eighty year old woman?

Or even that I drive too fast?

Nevermind.. I'll sure you'll get around to all the other little digs I haven't thought of in some future post. :D :D :D

Just wanted to see what you would say to a company posting their own vids for free. I just see it as advertising. When someone else does it though, you jump on their ass and talk about "does so-and-so know you're doing this?"

Why?

First of all, why on EARTH would I have any problem with a company posting it's OWN stuff free for advertising??? They have every right to do so. The point is, they are the one making the business decision. If it turns out to be a bad one, they they will pay for their OWN mistakes.

But when someone ELSE decides to put a company's product up for free, in full OR in part, then they are taking the business decisions away from the business owner. I don't see where the misunderstanding is. You can't TELL a business owner how to conduct business, unless you're the government. You can't force a business owner in the direction you'd like him to go by putting his stuff online without his permission.

That's just the way it is. Now, BCN MIGHT, or MIGHT NOT have permission to post what they have on YouTube. Only BCN and Accu-Stats knows what the full details of their arrangements are. I only asked if Pat Fleming knew about the YouTube videos. And everyone attacked me for telling him they were. Seems like suspicious behavior, for people who believe they are in the right.

I just finished a Business Law class, so I'll break it right on down for you.

It is illegal for anyone who does not have specific permission, to take the steps of posting those videos on YouTube. Period. End of story. The law is VERY clear on this. If you wish, I will look up the applicable Codes and/or Acts and post them. Do I need to?

What consumers believe to be in the best interests of the business is absolutely, unequivocably, 100% IRRELEVANT.

What I have railed against is the people who only follow the laws that are convenient for themselves. Posting videos on YouTube without Pat's permission is completely illegal, but a lot of the posters on this board don't care, because they are getting enjoyment out of it. But they'll be the first to complain how there is no good tournament coverage when Pat goes out of business.

Again, I have absolutely NO problem with an individaul company decides to put their own intellectual property online for free. The fact that you did not garner that from my previous posts PROVES that you didn't bother to readthem, or consider my side of the discussion.

cutting to the chase

Russ,

You are absolutely right here. The owners can do whatever they please with their property, including digital property. This does not give others any rights to said property.

Why do people pick on Russ for speaking the truth. Posting someone else's intellectual or otherwise property on the Web is illegal...end of story.

Ah...but isn't free fruit great!

That's what just amazes me.. Some of these otherwise respectable people justify illegal activity by simply saying "Well it helps the company!".

IF this were a valid excuse, then one could go into any public company and put up signs for this, take down signs for that.. When the owner says "WTF are you doing?" you can just say "It'll help your business, lay off!"

Right now I am having flash backs to that Italian, or whatever other language commercial, where the kid says "Mom said I can!" to everything. That's the way I see these people who are okay with downloading other people's property. They just use the catch all "Free advertising will help the company!" to justify thievery.

Russ

Does BClub not have the rights to the videos they posted? I am willing to bet they do. Russ does have a valid argument, but getting on to people about posting a thread with legitimate links is un called for.

Now, I'm sure all of you are going to view these HOUR-LONG videos, and it is going to get you excited enough to gobuy some videos, right?

Russ

(Who just BOUGHT $400.00 worth of Accu-Stats videos last night, instead of outright stealing them..SOMEbody's got to keep Pat in business..)

Fury Vids

The Fury vids are my content. It's from the 2007 Amway Women's World Championships. As you can see I wasn't the best videographer in the world :-)

But I did manage to capture a few good shots here and there. Soon we will be posting the complete matches as well for anyone who wants to download them.

Look for Jasmin's PERFECT break in game 9 of her match against Kelly Fisher. She makes 5 balls on the break and parks the cueball in the middle of the table for a Cosmo out.

Also you have my permission to download and distribute them anyway you see fit. Just don't remaster them and change the source.

Send me links of where you put them though and I may do a cue giveaway by picking a link at random. Ya' never know.

Russ, I think you're the target for a lot because of your attitude towards a lot of online video.

You automatically assume that every video online is illegal, pirated and immoral. Even when the Billiard Club Network (BCN) posted their videos on YouTube, you had to start raising a red flag as if they were breaking down the constitution itself. Your glass is always half empty.

Which is as it should be. It's a moot point, anyways. All I did at first was ask if Pat knew of these videos or not. That's it. And everyone got on my case.

Steven, I find it entertaining that you ignore the multiple times that people have posted clips of matches, or on rare occasion, FULL matches of Accu-Stats videos.. All of which were NOT posted by Accu-Stats or BCN.

In THOSE cases, the people viewing those clips WERE stealing. No way around it. The law is clear.

So forgive me for not trusting my fellow forum members any further than I can throw them ont his issue. They've already proven their willingness to steal intellectual property.

You all keep harping on the fact that these videos are legal, but ignore the fact that ALL I DID at first is ask if Pat Fleming knew about them. I then inform him, and am attacked FOR NO REASON.

John,

I want to say thank you for posting your content online free. We really do appreciate it. Pay no attention to everyone who hates me on here. I simply fight for the right of business owners to conduct business as they see fit, without having to worry about theft.

Jasmin broke in 5 balls? Wow! There are some that say that the top women have no chance against the top guys. I say it's just a matter of time.. And not that much time, at that.. :D

Russ, explain to me what is illegal about BCN posting their content on youtube to attract people to watch their videos?

You must be smoking some pretty good Iraqi hash over there, Russ. You've turned into the Azbilliards' version of Lars Ulrich.

Back to "thievery". In what form, Russ? lol. Your analogy makes no sense. In the past I had the largest amount of free billiard instruction material available through my website. I am sure that much of that material has been copied, distributed, passed along, etc. That is the risk you take when you post things on the internet. That is the risk that you take when your material is published in magazines, web sites, newsletters, blogs, whatever. Are there laws against it? Yes. Can you control it? Not very likely or you will drive yourself crazy in the process. This is why most people distribute their material in bits and pieces in hopes that those that view the snippets will be willing to purchase the entire block of material. I believe that BCN is doing just that via the posted material on youtube. Get over it.

Russ, I never mentioned anything about Pat. I'm talking about every clip you see posted here; you assume evil-doers are behind it. Don't defend yourself with one occurrence, which as we know was already posted by BCN.

I was simply clarifying why people harp you you: because you're like the hall monitor in elementary school, trying to brown nose to the teacher. You assume whatever you see is bad.

I have a hard time believing that you actually think it's "entertaining" that I "ignore the multiple times that people have posted clips...NOT posted by Accu-Stats of BCN."

Two questions:
1.) what makes you think I ignore these? (better yet, why would I even have the energy or time to actively ignore them?)
2.) Why should I be responsible for monitoring these? As it is, I work 60-70 hours as it is, and you would prefer that I spend my free time calling Pat Flemming and alerting YouTube?

Look -- save your crusades for those who will join you (sort of like Iraq). I don't see why you even felt it necessary to post on AzB that you had contacted Pat Flemming. Next thing, you'll try invent a way to actually transmit a finger-wagging over TCP/IP. Then you can patent it, and go after thsoe who infringe on the patent.

I am curious, is the law clear that viewing a copyrighted video (released without permission) on YouTube is stealing?
