Well, this seems to be an example of what happens when a new promoter tries to do a tournament. This is the first report I've seen of a problem. (Stolen from that other social media platform....)

They are at least as far as the semi-finals now. Can't find a stream.

Ok, I found the stream. The finals are starting in five minutes. The live stream is likely to be on the "Morocco open Championship" Facebook page.

The semi-finals were:
Alcaide 11-8 Sanderson
Neils 11-10 FSR

Finals: Neils Feijen vs. David Alcaide starting now.

The stream is slow, glitchy, and the meagre commentary is out of sync with the video. And it's on FB. But it's free.

Bracket is here:

One thing to note is the five ball is orange. But then the six ball is chartreuse, and the seven ball is teal. I thought we were done with those balls.

The stream has started -- practice racks right now.

The finals were preceded by a traditional percussion band. There was a glitch in the video, but it seems to be back again.

Played an event, some tables had orange 5 ball and a purple 4, other tables had different numbered colors. That was a first.

There is commentary by Imran Majid.

Niels breaks the nine in on the break in rack 3 -- 2-1 ahead now.

The field was not full because there was another event in the Netherlands that overlapped. 38 players total in Tangier.

Niels 3-2 now.

The plan is to move next year's event to April and increase the purse to $100,000.

Niels 4-2 now.

The table is a Wiraka pool table.

The ref was not aware that the 2 ball has to go on one of the corners. Niels let him know.

Alcaide now 8-6. Feijen breaking. Breaks in three and runs out

Alcaide 8-7

....

Tied up now, at 8.

From 33k (supposedly halved to 16k) to 100k? Fat chance! ha ha ha
I think it has some chance to find a major sponsor. It could be the Ministry of Culture and Billiards 🙂 or maybe an importer who is looking to increase sales. The previous events there seem to have been mostly blackball.
