Mosconi Cup 2025, Dec. 3-6, Alexandra Palace, London

I’m guessing Oscar would likely match up against any player on our team other than Gorst or SVB in a challenge match for big $. Even though Oscar doesn’t even play full-time like the others, he would still be a clear upgrade over two of our current players, in regards to how he would handle Mosconi Cup pressure.
you must be oscar's cousin

Lots of drama queens on here.

The USA team are all world class players. Numerous major titles between them. They aren't a bunch of randoms from some bar.

Play the Mosconi every week until a team wins 50 times. I bet both teams would get 40+ wins.

As enjoyable as it is seeing the Kansas City Chiefs (probably) not make the NFL playoffs this season - then (sadly) that doesn't mean that they're now a bad team. Just things haven't broken well for them this season. Just like USA have missed a few key balls. That's the difference.
This poster is smoking bad stuff

You think Billy Thorpe and Tyler Styer are world class players? They are not even top 100 players in the world. At least Skyler is #40 in the world when it comes to Fargo.

What major titles have any of them won in the past couple of years?

We are severely outranked. You say if they play the Mosconi every week until 50 then both teams would get 40+ wins.

We've played for the last 18 years in a row and only won 3.

A random from a bar could've gotten position on that 9 ball that Tyler missed. I've seen it many times.

You say we're drama queens but then you try to make a football comparison. Footballs fans are the biggest drama queens in all of sports. I've seen people cry, or get into fist fights just because of verbal arguments on who's team is better. Very low IQ stuff.

Do you even watch this?
This one is smoking good stuff

Pool played best is not conscious thought....freestanding is executing what you learned in practice and letting the subconscious drive. Which is why grinders love to play long hours , because playing that way is natural when you are tired.

Styer thinks himself into a coma.
Wow... I agree with you.

Looks like the 2025 Mosconi did amount to something note worthy

'Every now and then'???? Do have any idea what the US's record is the last 20odd yrs? Since '05 the US has won all of FOUR times and in five of those years they haven't got to five. 'Competitive' is not an adjective i'd use to describe it any more. Even exhibition matches should have some parity but this deal has jumped the shark.
c'mon man, our guys are doing tons better than the WASHINGTON GENERALS who haven't beaten the GLOBE TROTTERS since 1955 playing over a hundred times p/yr

I am settled. I said he's not even in the top 100 in the world. But omg, he is tied for #100. Why would that get me riled up?

Dirty hands dirty eater. He's not just "baby face" he eats like baby

Long sets challenge matches are poor indicator of who is better player under MC conditions.
Instead Play 5 sets of race to 5. Forget about the $$. Loser of each set gets finger cut off. :ROFLMAO:

So this is your first Mosconi Cup I presume?

Adjusting is what Americans have excelled at. I’m sure there’s more to what’s happening to our team than we know.
your probably right, also as someone who dabbled in Chi GG boxing i can tell you it's hard to fight back when your getting hit so hard and fast that you think your surrounded

the euros haven't given given them much air

If the US wants to improve in the Mosconi format is to play the event style matches like the Euros did before the event. Whether it be exhibition or money challenge an Asian team, or another group of US players (For example a team of Oscar, Chris R, Lukas, JB, Mike D), this would at least let them work on the shorter races and show who may actually be a good pick for the next team. Arguing that JB or Lukas should be picked wont really make a difference without them actually learning teamwork and excelling at the format. Its like switching someone that barely makes top 64 or 32 in a WNT event with someone that barely makes top 64 or 32 in the same event. Everyone on the Euro team is a champion of said events. In the short timeframe if you cant get better than them in skill, get better than them in the teamwork and that should help them feel less pressure and make the match closer.

The whole argument saying "well this US player would be that Euro player in a race to 1000" is irrelevant. All that means is that you are saying I need more games where I can dog balls and recover and grind out the other guy. The fact is in a race to 5, the Euros maybe make like 1-2 mistakes the entire time. The US players are lucky if they only make 5.

appears henny doesn't excel in this format

I like our chances in match #11. I make Shane a slight favorite. If the other matches go according to form the score would be 9-2 at that point in time. Then Matchroom/Sky could cancel match 12 and we could start talking about a miracle comeback on Day Four. I'm sorry to be so blunt but there is a better chance of this happening than USA winning the day 3 or 4 to 1. My prediction, 11-3 final score.
the euros may decide to "carry" them a little

How about a young guns team event to get them ready as others have mentioned.
Henderson, Verner, Roberts, Meglino, Sossei, whoever VS the previous year's team.
I'd watch that. The US team did well when they played the UK team and the Russian team prior to the cup.

Instead of having the cup as an exhibition with set payouts for each team whether they win or lose, have it set up as a TPA tourney and you'd have a clear TPA singles and doubles champion. This way the cup itself would just be a bonus and there'd be real incentive for Team America to put in some real practice/focus on the specific event and even if they are down as a team they still have individual incentive to perform til the end. If this type of format wouldn't start to balance things out then nothing else could. If you you are an elite player on a historically terrible team you shouldn't be punished for that as an individual financially! The main issues are overall team chemistry and how the bottom 2 - 3 players perform, this type of format could remedy half of those issues in 2 - 3 years. Europe would still be a favorite but only on a team basis, not individual.
We don't have a single winning player on team USA, nobody is being punished

Wow, the crowd went a little overboard there, completely sharking him on the 9 the entire time he's down is really unfair. They didn't do that to anyone else. But I get it, even Tyler smiled after because he probably felt he deserved that.

The referee should've stepped in and quiet them down and reset the clock.
