Mosconi Cup Day One

Some of the players look like they're being tortured. Not a happy event.
Come now, you don't think the marvelous mullets are having fun?

I really want to know what happened between SVB and Shaw to get them going at each other on social media. Even Karl commented that it was very hush hush and that nobody would talk about it

It's double hill, and Albin breaking. And he breaks dry. Shane to the table and can see the 1. He runs out and wins. It's now Europe 3 and USA 2 at the end of the day. Whew! We needed that one!
Welcome back JAM! Nice to see you posting and I understand your absence, but not everyone here are trolls. :)

The mullets were great! I'm betting on the mullets doing some damage the next few days!!!

I’m not a banker, so it’s hard for me to fathom why any pro level 9-ball player would ever choose a bank shot over a makeable cut shot, unless there was no feasible way to get shape playing the cut shot.
I had absolutely no problem with his choice of the bank, as the cut offered a possible one rail scratch. The other consideration is that the bank offered a little more defense on a miss. Chris' biggest mistake was not playing a little more shape as he banked the eight, which he could have done while still controlling the eight on a pro side miss of the bank. There's an old saying that a two way shot that doesn't get you at least some shape is not a two way shot at all. Chris came with the bank, but misplayed the cue ball, and that's why the shot backfired --- not because he selected it over the cut.

My reflections on Day One. Everyone struggled! Bravo to Rasson for making the conditions tough, like a U.S. Open in golf. Like SJM said we will see better play tomorrow. The players will get their heads together and talk about how best to play on this equipment.

Shane really stepped up under pressure. Otherwise the USA would be trying to dig themselves out of a 4-1 hole, and that hasn't worked out well for them in the past. That is probably the best I've ever seen Shane play in the MC in that last match, particularly his last three racks. His body language told the whole story. He was focused and determined. If the USA wins this year, Shane will be the one leading the way. As for Chris, he showed everyone how to break and they followed his lead. He will learn a lot from the match he lost with Kaci. NEVER take anything for granite and control your adrenaline. He probably made some of the best shots of the day, like that long two ball at the beginning of the match.

This is not a friendly competition. These guys look like they are playing for blood. There will not be a gracious loser this year. That fact alone will make this a memorable MC.

I expect a better level of playing tomorrow...hopefully as it was in the last match and surely it was a huge point for team USA at the end of the session.
Without fans it is a completely another story and not to a better side at least for me. Hopefully it is the first one like this in a history and the last at the same time. There is so much more fun with the crowd and so on but big respect to Matchroom for trying their best they can under these circumstances.

After day 1 it seems to me without JB team USA is going to have hard times. Chris Robinson did not look like the weakest link but it looked to me there was another player who did not seem to feel comfortable. Of course it may be just some tension and excitement at the start so we'll see on the next sessions how it goes.
I believe team Europe is going to play better with each session...the level of playing today was not their A-game to say at least but they should do their homework and feel better tomorrow. Alex Lely has much easier time with the strategy...picking the players for the sessions comparing to JJ (imo).

Can anyone explain why the 4-ball is pink/orange and the 5-ball is purple, or am I going colorblind? Makes absolutely no sense!
Even Allison Fisher called the 5 ball the 4 ball on at least one occasion.

Change for the sake of change is not a compelling justification in my mind.

It looks like the fans will get to choose the singles match that will kick off Day 2. Filler or Shaw vs SVB, most likely.

Cory was bar far the worst player in the building today, imo. He did not look confident or comfortable at all. I hope he turns it around tomorrow.
