MATCHROOM SPORT can announce the Official Mosconi Cup Team USA Ranking Events for the 2016 Europe v USA match which takes place at the Alexandra Palace in London from 6th to 9th December. Three of the five spots on Team USA will be allocated to the three highest placed players on the ranking list following the conclusion of the US Open in October.
The roster of events has been significantly expanded from 2015 and this year there are a total of 25 tournaments which carry Mosconi Cup points. These events have been grouped into three categories: Category One is major international events both in the USA and overseas; Category Two is events played on 9 foot tables in the US and Category Three is events taking place in the US played on 7 ft tables.
In addition, within Categories Two and Three there are three separate grades each, making a total of seven levels of points through the three Categories. The maximum number of points a winner can receive would be 80 for winning a Category One event. The least number would be 21 points for winning a Category Three, Grade Three event.
Commented a spokesman for Matchroom Sport, “For 2016, we’ve decided to be as inclusive as possible and involve more and more tournament promoters across the USA. This gives players many more opportunities to play for Mosconi Cup ranking points and may cut down on some of the expense of playing every single event as in previous years.
“We’re also creating a strong connection to the Mosconi Cup with a variety of promoters and pool rooms across the USA which can only be good for everyone involved in this fantastic event. With such a range of points available, players can pick and choose which events they play in and it will all culminate at the US Open next October. Matchroom Sport will be publishing regular ranking lists as the season develops.”

I'm glad they've done this, but it seems awfully complex, with all of the different levels and grades. I would think they could have had, say, three levels total instead of all these. But that's a minor quibble. I hope that being a Mosconi Cup points event acts like a kind of stamp of approval for being a top pool tournament, and it attracts players and some attention to the events.

Which of the Mosconi point venues require a shot clock? Those events should be the higher point value.

Good point, Pacecar.
Shot clocks inject another dimension of pressure.
Not unlike the conditions at the MC.

I wouldn't think the difference in points would be that
great for a competition with a shot clock, but certainly
enough to differentiate.

I can't think of a tourney that uses a shot clock. Other than MC of course. Probably because you have to have a clock at each table and someone to operate it. I don't think it is an issue at all.

Anyone know the current point standings?

Turning Stone -

3rd Place - Oscar Dominguez 35 points
4th Place - Rodney Morris 33 points
7th Place - Hunter Lombardo 23 points
9th Place - Dennis Hatch, Mike Dechaine 18 points

17th Place - Tommy D'Alfonso, James Adams, Brandon Shuff, Mark Creamer, Bucky Souvanthong 8 points
25th Place - Jeremy Sossei, Karen Corr, Kyle Pepin, Jennifer Barretta, Ron Casanzio 5 points

Derby City - well since this is 2016, I still can't find all the results online.

1st Place - SVB 50 points
8th-10th Place - Scott Frost 23 points (not 100% this is where he would have finished)
Chohan, Owens, Wilkie, Shuff ???

Overall

1st SVB 50 points
2nd Oscar 35 points
3rd Rodney 33 points
4th/5th Hunter/Frost 23 points
6th/7th Hatch/Dechaine 18 points

Rest would be a guess til I can see how the four others actually placed @ DCC

Were the dates announced for the US Bar Table Championships? Cause this shows it as May 17-22 in Reno, correct?

Frost went out in Round 10 (10 players). 6 players went on to Round 11, so Frost finished in a tie for 7th-10th.

Chohan, Owen, Shuff, and Wilkie all went out in Round 8 (27 players). 16 players went on to Round 9, so these 4 all finished in a tie for 17th-27th.

The published Matchroom points schedule for DCC will have to be adjusted a little to fit this year's placements.

The playcsipool.com website states

2016 US Bar Table Championships
Dates: TBA, Location: TBA

but I would think Matchroom would have had to verified something before they published the dates. There are other tourneys on the list that have dates still to be determined.

Yes - that makes it weird.

note Frost and Chohan/Owens/Wilkie/Shuff points subject to change if Matchroom drops them into a different placement for points as they don't fit their defined place of finish.

Not sure why Matchroom included events on 7' tables... Seems like there are plenty of tournaments on regulation tables, why not just allot more points for those and not have bar table tourneys being in the picture...

All this BS because U.S.A's players and promoters can't get together and get an organization. It would help pool in so many ways. I'm sure that if we had an Org, someone with money and juice could get online betting on pool started. IMO pool would skyrocket from it. Johnnyt

I agree. 7ft are for kids
9 events on 7ft and 16 events on 9 ft
Added money on 7ft is about 15% of 9ft events
7ft events get less points about 70% of 9ft points

Matchroom gives much less weightage to 7ft. but since there are already 16 x9ft events, they could have just left out the 9 x7ft events and just stick to 16 events
:D
