Mosconi cup SOLUTION

Everyone dogs it for the money at some point in time.

And this golden era of American pool you speak of was all about hustling. Not championships streamed and played all over the world.
Maybe it was all about hustling where you lived if you were around playing in the sixties if you were.

But I disagree with your assessment because straight pool was the big game then and if you had been there you’d know that.

Straight pool was NOT about hustling anyone. It was one against one to see who could win the game. Known as the game of truth. Most of the time there was zero dollars involved. The incentive then was just winning by out playing your opponent. Most of the time the loser paid for the table time which wasn’t big money by any means.
When I started to play in 64 table time was a penny a minute. Under a dollar an hour.

The other popular game was eight ball which wasn’t about gambling either.

That’s why I have doubts that you were playing pool in the sixties.

Nine ball was played for money and usually in ring games with five or six guys involved. Not one on one. Hustling that is just about impossible. There are five opponents and rail birds watching every move you make.

That’s right, Minnesota Fats and Fast Eddie played for hot dogs and a Coca-colas. 😜

Not the one hustler perhaps but 6 guys? The proportions are endless.

The problem with pool in the US is an image problem. In numerous other countries there is a different perception of cue sports than here. You can't draw crowds of spectators to something that is generally seen as distasteful. Hustling is part of the problem. The bar scene is part of the problem. The lack of quality leagues for younger people to be involved in is because of pool's image problem. Everyone here knows this. We all know how the game is perceived. SVB and a few other players have been working on the 'opportunity for kids to be involved' part of it, and proper respect for the work they are doing. However, most parents would rather their kids join a soccer team or participate in school sanctioned clubs than go to the pool hall. Without a new generation of players this sport will be dead here in a short time.
In America, this great game doesn't attract our best athletes or thinkers. Because of it's image. Period.

Woody Woodward ur right i would not send my kid to a pool hall there is no future in it ,i say stay in school get your education.
.

Who is it profitable for?

the promoter, the winning team, the losing team, sky sports..

i was gonna write something about billy getting his annual 20k welfare check but imo he played his heart out and made some super shots. noone can say he wasn't trying hard. he just falls short on safety and position play, that's also why he isn't a 800+ player

They should make a movie of "Earl", based upon his life...warts and all.

Who would play Earl?
someone else said Edward Norton, like that suggestion but I'd like to see someone younger play younger Earl...

Younger Earl: Miles Teller. He can do anything.

40s-50s Earl: Noah Wylie or Joaquin Phoenix

Older Earl: Ralph Fiennes(could you imagine lol)
