I am 73 years old, male and have been playing for many years. On the forum there has been some guessing as to who will be on the next Mosconi cup team. I have a question. Why are there no women even considered for the Team? If we all love pool and want to see it revive and grow should haff the population be excluded from the kind of exposure pool needs to increase interest and excotement. I believe that there are a number of very good women players (you know who they are) that would add excitement, interest and exposure that the games need. Are we still living in the 20th century, or the 21st".Is it not time to become more inclusive instead of promoting males as the only best players? The Mosconi Cup is not a war between Europe and the US. It is a sports event. No one's life depends on winning or losing. Time to make it better and more attractive to younger players who want to be there.
 
I suppose there's nothing wrong with considering having women participate in the Mosconi Cup, but if you are trying to put together the BEST teams possible, make no mistake about it -- you need all men.

That's just how it is.

They did have women play in it during its earlier years. Allison fisher,jeanette lee and vivian villareal all played for their respective sides

How many new guys sign up at 73? Can't be a lot of 'em.

Right now the mosconi cup is probably the most exciting, widely watched pool event.
It generates a lot of excitement on here...
Look at all the mosconi cup threads, and it's been done for 3 months.
And the next one is a long ways off.

So, why are we going to change something that is already successful and works well?

Right now the only possible problem with the mosconi cup is, it's getting lopsided.
USA keeps losing. We're 1 for 7 since 2007 (1 for 8 if you count the tie).

So in my opinion that's the #1 thing that needs fixing... we must stop losing.
Which means playing the absolute best players... which means the top 5 males.

I think you will lose more fans than you gain, if you start mixing in females.
Then people will stop seeing it as a serious contest and start seeing it as
some sort of promotional stunt, like a celebrity golf tournament.
 
I think it could be a useful requirement that each team have two women on it. Of course, it means the US would just fall further behind.

I don't follow women's pool as much as I should. Does the US have two world-class female players? There's Janette Lee, but who else?

Jeanette is a step or two bellow world class I would think, at least now. She was a top finisher in the womens tour but that was a tour without the current crop of Euro and Asian women who can probably give every US player the 7. It would be interesting to have a couple of women on each side, but then you'd have to be condescending and have them only play each other to be fair. On the other hand, short races, the top women do have a chance.

Shane just beat Cory giving him the 5 and 6 ball, and Cory can probably do the same with just about any woman player on the planet. What will happen if those women go up against 5 players at or close to how Shane plays?

I wouldn't say that women are not being considered. But which American female pro would you consider? I don't think there is one at the moment that would make the cut.....but I may be wrong.

Personally I have no issues whatsoever with a female player on the team, more power to them.
 
Well, assuming Jasmin Ouchan and Karen Corr make the Euro team, I would have a problem with it...:(

I'm okay so long as they are vulnerable to playing the men (coach's choice, blind draw, etc.)...but then again, Jasmin and Karen play well enough in a short race to beat men, too...
