Mosconi Day 4 Matches in Progress Coverage

Please pool gods, give SVB a decent chance. He's been getting a bad run of the balls all tourney and everyone knows how that effects one's form. Nikos is a fine player, but not in SVB's league. For the sake of justice, and so the event may continue a little longer, I hope the fortunes turn for Shane soon.

Of course, very few can predict what pros will play. It takes a pro-level player to do that. Jim Wych was a pro snooker player and does ok when he predicts shots, but he rarely takes that role. Even if he did, he hasn't the experience of a pro 9 baller.

It doesn't take a pro level player to comment on pro pool. It takes understanding up to about A+ or Open speed - depending on what game they are commenting on.

Also, everyone has a different opinion on what good commentary is. Keep in mind you need to be able to appeal to both the beginner, spectator, and seasoned pro. It's tough.

Shanes at the table, sketchy pot on the 1 ball, but he gets back in shape. Shane is on the 7 ball now. I predict he is out.

Splendid run Shane.. the pool gods listened. LOL

I just tuned in to see, I hope, a shift in the winds. Wow! If Shane loses, the Mosconi Cup is over?

Fair point. I'd be happy to have Bob Jewett or Jay Helfert call it. Anyone who has knowledge of the game.

There's room for non-experts too, who add color and professionalism to the presentation, but this year, they are lacking expertise.

I would hate for Shane to lose this match, but I think we all know there is too much pressure on USA. If Shane won the first match of the day that would have been one thing, but this is almost an inevitable outcome.

In my opinion, a good commentator would not do that. That is in effect upstaging the player. Which will get a lot of egg on you.

A good commentator describes the action, after it happens, to help those that aren't in the know, to understand what just happened, along with describing the actions of the player & the spectators to the commentator's audience.

Great shot on the 1 ball from Shane. This looks to be his rack. If so, that will make it 3 - 3

Nikos pushes to a long straight 1. SVB passes. Nikos ducks, but leaves a corner of the 1. I'm a little surprised nobody shot that ball.

Shane cuts in the one, now he's in line. Looks clear from here out.

Brilliant 1 to 2 by Shane, he should be out now, after refusing the push out, something that took guts to do. OMG he just missed an easy 6 ball, but leaves a tough out.

But....
Shane dogs an easy 6. Now looks easy for Nikos.

But...
Nikos gets funny on the 7, tries to crush the cue ball around the table, gets thin on the 8. Leaves Shane a tough thin cut. Shane makes it, but tough on the 9.

Overcuts the 9. Damn. Nikos a pretty easy 9 now.

Nikos up 4-2.
