Five on a BB twice. Both times I was hooked and didn't get out. I'd be willing to bet even money the day I put 7 down I'm locked tight behind the 8 ball!! lol
I've also broke in 6 balls a few (twice on a valley bar table, once on a 9 footer) in 9 ball competitions and happily found my way out of the predicaments that you end up with when making so many balls. I absolutely agree with your theory Eric.
Almost did 7 once but the cue ball got loose and cut off the last ball from the pocket. That would have been cool but clearly wasn't meant to be.
I did however have a shot at a 10 ball break(on a 9 footer with new cloth) and run pot which was topping 5k at the time in which I sank 7 balls and got massively hooked by two of the remaining three balls. I remember I needed to make the 2 which was on the rail two diamonds from the corner pocket with the cue ball mid table behind the ten by about 1.5 inches before moving on to the 8 which was directly behind the cue ball and practically touching it. I couldn't find a kick that worked from where I was so I attempted to jump it, cleared the 10 ball and rattled the pocket with the 2 ball!!!!! arrgghh it still hurts but I did walk away with a nice amount of cash for the 7 balls that seemed to magically disappear on my break.
I took 6 on a shimmed 9 footer the other day which is my best by far. The funny thing about that is before that I was crushing the break and not making more than two and more often not making anything. I decide I am going to use a super accurate control break and see what happens. First break I drop the one, both wing balls and 3 more....all in order. After they all fall I am left a shot on the 7 with the 8 and 9 down table.
Stopped using a power break that day and went with the control break. I averaged 2-3 balls per break after that.
I have made 6 a few times. I had a friend who broke, made 7. The 9 ball was a few inches from the corner pocket and the cue ball was dead hooked behind the 7 ball (only other ball on the table) at the other end. Absolutely brutal. It was on a Gold Crown II or III i believe.
This may be hard to believe, but I made 8 balls on the break playing 9 ball on an 8 ft gandy once. I don't have a super break, it was just a freak thing. Yes , one of the balls that went was the 9 ball.
I made ALL nine balls! Then I woke up.
The most I've ever seen made on the break in 9-ball is five balls. I don't recall ever seeing six balls go on the break. But I'm kinda new to the game so maybe in another forty years I'll see it. Just got to be patient you know.
