Most Reliable Tip

I think I have bad luck when it comes to getting a new tip on my cue. I prefer medium-hard/hard tips, and have tried about 10 different kinds, and either they lose shape, delaminate, or just won't hold chalk well. Does anyone know of some reliable medium-hard/hard tips? I have also tried non-layered tips, but they have a tendency to crack.

Non layered I like the triangle medium hard (came with my McDermott, always stuck with it), and I'm hearing very good things about the Kamui layered tips. I've also tried Moori medium, worked pretty good for me aswell. Guess you just had bad luck.

Best tip, least maintenance

Of all the laminates and one layer tips I have tried only the Moori keeps its shape for ages. A Moori Q is the hard version, playes like most mediums, only needs a gentle roughing now and then to retain chalk well, and rarely needs to be shaped after maybe the first time. Personally I use a Moori medium and rarely have to touch it. One pc tips are hit or miss in quality and often mushroom, or are so hard you need to roughen them up through the match you are playing. The mooris are like a low maintenance spouse...sweet!

Two tips that won't mushroom and only need the odd scuff are Tiger Snipers and Talisman Pro Medium or Hard. Sumo is a hard Solid tip that won't mushroom either.

I've tried Snipers and I felt they 'grabbed' the cueball a bit too much for my taste. I am interested in trying the Talismans or Sumo tips. How much do they cost for the smallest quantity they are sold in, and where can I order them? Thanks for the info everyone.

Sniper are real nice, and won't break the bank. Not that I would go cheap on something like a tip, though.

IIRC, Sumos were 6.50 + s/h for Muellers. I bought some a couple of years ago and will agree that they were in the top couple of tips I've used. My only complaint is: when you miscue, Sumos have a tendency to break off a chunk. Durability? 1/5 Playability? 5/5.

I also like the Moori soft, but it does need to have the mushroom taken out 1 or 2x after install.

Have you tried Everest? I've been using them for about a year now. I think they hold thier shape well and also hold chalk well.

The Sumo is a good 1 pc tip. I prefer the Talisman WB in hard, but the Talisman Pro in Med or hard are good as well.

best

Talisman domed pro hard. My durometer shows the same hardness all the way across the tip and the tips are consistent in the box. The best is to order direct from Talisman in Thailand.

I'd been using a Moori-Q for quite a while and had no problems with it. Put on a Kamui-H about a month ago and like it a lot.

Triangle is the most consistant tip if installed properly. It must be pressed in a vise for a few seconds before installing or it will be spongy feeling and will mushroom. Pressing it eliminates that problem. Some want a harder hit and a pressed Lepro or Moori fits the bill for that. They are not as consitant as the Triangle. As far as not mushrooming and holding chalk good among layered tips I would choose the Sniper. The hit is just a little harder than the triangle and it grips the ball much like a triangle.

Most reliable tip

You have replies from some highly qualified people. Moori is the standard by which all layered tips are measured and it seems LePro or Triangle are the standard bearers for non layered. Cue tips are like pool cues to me. I like to hear about a new tip that is the latest and greatest so I can get one and try it. Still looking for the magic bullet, I guess, even though I know better. My advice is to try tips recommended by qualified posters then forget what they said about them and play with the one you liked the best. Same thing when buying a cue.

Im gonna have to go with Triangle med/hard. came on my Bob Frey and I decided to stick with it!

I've been using Moori M for almost a year now, there was some mushrooming after a few months, but I have never needed to scruff it and it holds chalk very well.

Hey quick question, I have been using a moori now for a long time, and only once in a while do i need to trim the edges or burnish it. It is thin though. I now have like a nickel thickness of an edge on it. Is it still good? Or time to replace? Anyhelp greatly apprciated.

Yea since i got my new cue with moori mediums on there, its my first time using a moori... and i can say i dont think it performs any better than any other tip.. and it mushrooms so fast!! even with burnishing and tip maintenence i still see some mushrooming, and i saw my friends moori hard, it was completely mushroomed!

I did shoot with a sniper for almost a year, thats the kind of tip where once you put it on, you notice the difference in the first shot you take, its definately a good tip, used for a year, no burnishing, and never once even came CLOSE to mushrooming. It got great action as well. Just need the occasional scrape.

As for me i REALLY wanna try one of those talisman WB-Hard's... but im so afraid to take my coker shaft to the local guy, he RUINS ferrules!!! Its always all scratched up!! So i dont know what to do, i have 2 shafts, ones brand new and id like to keep it that way, without altering it. I could send it 200 miles away to predator in jacksonville for the tip job, but that would take 2-3 weeks to get back to me! Oh well! Snipers are good! Moori's are crap!

You can buy just one Talisman Pro with free shipping in the US for $7.50 from Seyberts, (No minimum purchase amount). If you buy 3 or more Talisman pro, the price lowers to $5.95 each. I've bought from them before, and they sell the real deal, no hassles. You'll receive the pre-domed tips, but they come with so much height, you'll be shaping them well down after installation.

Atlas has the best prices anywhere, but you have to buy at least $50.00 worth of stuff and there's shipping and handling charges.Go with Seyberts, very good company.

Talisman Pro hard are great tips, I've been using them for many years and recently experimented with more than 10 types of tips. Came running right back to Talisman.
