Moving to Silver Spring, Maryland

I do believe a home table is in order! Traffic after work is brutal.

Laurel, md will likely be best bet for well-attended leagues. Bar boxes, I think.

Hopefully some other folks closer to there will chime in.

What should I know about rooms/leagues/tournaments in the area?

Welcome to the neighborhood!

Wheaton, md has a league on Tuesday and vicki and mike capone the cue maker play their some time!

Most people go to Virginia and play at first break cafe or revolutions in Springfield. There is also whetzels but never been there.

The black pool room is Qball 1 and safe with good action in one pocket mostly...

Bank shots in laurel, md is a league room and very nice.

Triple 9 is close but bad equipment and only one nice brunswick.

Another great room is in Baltimore with tuff action and funny tables... called???

Hope this helps

Top hat is the Baltimore room, no?

I was there not too long ago and and there have been huge newses being made.

One: they have booze now and are no longer open 24hrs.
Boooo. But the almighty dollar doth beckon.

So, to piggyback off this question a bit:

If one was to move to the Washington, D.C. area to work as a military/government contractor, what area would be best to be able to buy a house affordably (with room for a full 9 foot table), but still have a workable commute to D.C.? Given the pay rates in the area, I would say "affordable" is up to $350,000.00, depending on tax rates..

I have seen that along with D.C., a lot of IT contracting jobs are in the Reston, Chantilly, Fairfax, Sterling area.

I ask because I am currently living in Germany with a contract renewal coming up next June, and I know that it would be easy to get a job in D.C. for a contractor with a clearance if worst comes to worst, but if I were to deal with living in the D.C. area, having my own table is an absolute requirement.

Thanks

$350K in the DC area? You will be commuting a LOOOOONNNGGGGG way. One of the most expensive areas in the country.

A home table is likely out of the question. I'll be stuck in an apartment for a while.

I would like to hit some with you when you arrive..

Maybe get blackballed and a ring game...

Strictly social.

Count on it. Likely staying at Fort Meade the first month or two, but the job is at the National Museum of Health and Medicine in SS.

In D.C. Proper, not happening. Not even within a 45 min commute.

Best bet would be to get home in sterling or ashburn and work in Reston.

Plenty of uncle sugar's money out there and they might just need to buy you for your clearance...I hear it happens.

It'd be cool to have you around, but I never get out, really.

This combination of work/living location would work? I think I've seen plenty of jobs in Reston, so that seems workable.

All I know is that in the D.C. "area", I will never be out of a job as a cleared IT contractor, no matter what.. And that if one contract dries up, another is right there at 5K more a year.

I don't get out much either, I just know that when I have my own table, I play a lot better, and it opens up the possibility of actually taking a pro scalp once in a while if I become a little more systematic in my practice. I ran a 4 pack against Joey Gray at DCC when the races were to 7, but lost, due to practicing too much on a funky Red Label Diamond. Jumped straight up out of my stroke while running the fifth rack, because I got too thin, and all the muscle memory from my Red Label told me the CB was coming off the rail like a rocket.

Same year, I had John Morra down 2-1 in the One Pocket (the very next match after he won the Banks), and lost, for the same reason. I would have crushed him in the set if I had actually been practicing on a Blue Label. I couldn't make a cross corner to save my life... And I forced multiple opportunities to do so in the last two games.

I just want to get back into a situation where I have a good, tight Blue Label Diamond to practice on, before my eyes give out. It's not gonna happen while I am here in Germany. I am turning 43 in a few days, my time is running out to play my top speed.

Glad I don't have to go into town anymore for work. I used to leave at 5 am, now I leave at 8. 3 hrs knocked off my work day. That's massive.
