MR US Open Qualifier

Why play in the torunament if your not going to go? I would assume there would be a backup player option. Or they just open the remaining slots. There is player check in. And lots of people show up looking for open spots too.

I've contacted them many times since march, ZERO response. Thx zar
It may be too late, but you could tell them that you want to run a qualifier at your local room. They will send you a contract. Or, contact someone who either is or has tried to run a qualifier. Felt in Denver has two qualifiers scheduled. Ask them.

As for HOW the player showing up at the event can be guaranteed, that's a problem. I've seen qualifiers where many of the players simply wanted the local competition. You will never get 32 or 64 local players who all really want and can go to the main event. In the past, I've only paid the winner when they arrive at the venue ready to play.

If there are no-shows in Atlantic City, I assume Matchroom will sell the spots to people on the wait list. I imagine there will be at least 20 spots available for late entries, but nothing is guaranteed.

apparently they are sending out invitations to people who also finished high in the events. My closest friend who’s an amateur and plays in a lot of matchroom events finished runner up and got a letter yesterday inviting him to play and paying his entry fee.

Well as of right now there 4 players signed up for Denver’s qualifier. Not 34. 4. And it’s next weekend. Looks like not many are interested at all. The TD was at a Junior tournament until yesterday. Due to that, maybe they’ll be more listed tomorrow. I can’t even buy a plane ticket with only 4 sitting on the player list. Luckily still under $200 round trip, but probably not for much longer.

The host of the Philly qualifier in a couple weeks just made an announcement on FB that MR is allowing him to qualify 4 players, instead of 2, for a smaller field. In addition, there is no longer a 32 man minimum field size.

How does MR 9Ball US Open event organizer/holder, guarantee their winnin player will show?
If they don't then what?

Nothing is guaranteed in life.

However, I do believe the winners of the qualifiers have their entry fee paid directly to MR, as opposed to being paid in cash at the qualifier. That will at least help somewhat with them showing up.

I think the biggest issue with the Felt qualifiers is they are two single elimination tournaments and $150. There are probably some players that don’t fancy single when there could be lower ranked pros and semi pros in there and the tournaments aren’t cheap to play in. Me included. You have a bad match on Saturday and won’t have another chance until Sunday at a new tournament. That’s a new day and not the same as getting another match after a loss in double elimination. Plus the fact you could pull the same opponent both tournaments.

I’m not trying to tell TDs how to run their tournaments. I’m just saying there would most likely be more signed up if it was modified single with eliminations beginning in round 2 where all players get to play at least twice.

July 27 -28 are the qualifiers close to New York, there are two happening those dates:

Mezz Q in Vineland, NJ
Bluegrass in Philadelphia, PA

If you search, for Mezz Q ball, then search for Q ball billiards Vineland NJ

Matchroom posted Mezz Q ball and that place is not returning results on search.

The matchroom registration links to just emailing them. What do you write in that email?

The links for the July 27 events do not work. The ones for denver work.

I can't read the email hyperlink when I hover the mouse on the matchroom website.

All the dates work for me. Why is the Matchroom site not working for me?

The only links that work for me are Denver in Felt and that takes me to Samm Dieps website.

The train from Penn Station to Atlantic City is a long ride plus a short bus ride to Vineland Jersey.

If you fly into Philly, then you have to take a hopper to the casino or trains or book another flight or rent a car or Uber, it's a good hr away from the airport. Once there, you'll need a car to get to eateries elsewhere. Nothing real close.

@Willowbrook Wolfy if you come to Philly, I'll match up with you! :) Here is the Philly qualifier info. Check the plane fares from where you are, maybe they are favorable. The room is full of Gold Crowns that play perfect.

lol. Just checked the flights and one flight back has a 4hr layover in Fort Lauderdale. Might make it to the beach for a minute after all. Not sure what I’m doing yet. But if I’m going to Philly, I’ll let you know.

I just noticed Felt is listed as two people qualifying with a 16 person field. 1 with an 8 person. Matchroom is really hurting for participation. I might just run an 8 person and pay a hall near me table time.💪💪😉

The model "as designed without modification" does not work today. Maybe they will re-evaluate next year.

Maybe just team up with Fargo next year. Right of first refusal right down the fargo list for those not part of the WNT 128.
