Music legend Prince (who loved to play pool) just passed away.

I sent that link to my son in St. Paul MN, who is, among other things, a professional level musician. He answered me back with the following email...quite a story behind that session!

Hey Dad

It’s really cool you sent that to me… I’ve actually seen it dozens of times. The awesome thing about that particular performance is that theres a story behind it…

George Harrison’s wife actually didn’t want Prince there because he didn’t really know him, and she thought the people at GH’s memorial should all be people he used to hang out with. Prince literally showed up and begged to play because he had ALWAYS wanted to play a gig with Tom Petty. Nothing to do with George Harrison haha… The way Prince looks at Petty the whole time like this hero, then he completely blindly falls backwards off the stage and get caught at the last minute all during a rip-shit guitar solo. It’s fun to watch all the other musicians onstage just in awe of Prince.

Eric Clapton was once ask what it was like to be the greatest guitar player alive. He said “Go ask Prince.”

He was one of my heroes and it’s pretty amazing to see the actual impact he had on the world… The Eiffel Tower is purple. Google is purple. The whole city of Minneapolis is purple. What a loss.

Love you Pops talk to you soon!

Thanks Scott,
Your son confirms what others stated about the EC quote. Too bad Prince wasn't able to meet GH before passing. At least he was able to pay his respects.

Meds are out there. They help us live without pain, and they can get us in trouble. Regardless of his personal sh+t, he entertained us, was a damn good musician, seemed to have been a good neighbor and had religious beliefs.

Take me out with drugs or natural causes. Whichever, this place is starting to smell bad and 38 waist pants suck.

Maybe the quote was not from EC...regardless the humble know that "best" is usually on a day-to-day basis.

At my age I don't really have a dog in this fight, hell I like Glen Miller, and Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey, as well as any of this, but I did watch the video and I could swear Tom Petty gave Prince a dirty look as he passed by.

Besides being a legendary artist, it is awesome to hear about his philanthropy....which he didn't boast about or want to be made public.

Minneapolis has been crazy this past week. All night dance parties until 7am at First Ave., Purple Rain being played at Target Field and other theatres, and a lot of purple being worn.

One of Princes crew said a few things about what was going on and
hospital personnel always leak alot of crap when theres a celebrity present.

1.You (we) don't know if that's actually true.
And, his entire staff is required to sign non disclosure contracts. So if it is true, someone betrayed his trust and their contract for a few dollars from TMZ.

2.Breaking the law for a story is ok? No, its not. TMZ paid someone to violate the law, which makes them just as guilty.
Just because someone is famous doesn't mean that the law goes out the window. Its disgusting if you ask me.

I'm a jazz lover and bit of a collector. A documentary on my favorite group The (Jazz) Crusaders was rumored to be produced in the future by Prince. I would have loved to have seen that.
I was not fan of Prince but he will be missed.

If you're a jazz fan , listen to the album by Prince titled Xpectation. You won't believe its Prince.
