Music when you practice?

I just picked up a cell phone that doubles as an mp3 player and was thinking about using it and headphones during practice. I've read a lot about how some people like the least amount of distractions possible, such as shooting at tables away from crowds or windows, asking to have the room music or tv turned down low, etc. etc. Do you think this detracts from building up your ability to ignore such distractions or do you think the added focus on your game is a better trade off? Do you also think that by practicing with music, you'll need music to be able to feel comfortable shooting if you get used to it?

I'll only use a MP3 if there are to many distractions (Karokee, live band, annoying drunk people). If i'm in a pool hall with good music and plenty of room around the tables, I feel that is close to tournament conditions and I don't use a MP3 player.

Song to check out:
Lux Aeterna(FULL ORCHESTRA) by Clint Mansell.....trust me, a great motivational song.

Everyone's different. I see a lot of guys, both young and old, who listen to their MP3 player when they shoot. Me, I like to hear the click of the balls and the balls falling clean into the pocket (hopefully), even if just practicing alone.

I have never actually tried to practice with an MP3 player myself. It would just bother me personally but it could help you. I believe that as long as the music is not blaring in your ears and you aren't so crowded that you bump into someone every time you bend down to shoot, it is good to practice in those conditions. You should be comfortable with all of your surroundings, and not let things like music bother you when going out to gamble or play a tournament. I also don't think you could become dependant on the MP3 if you used it, probably just preference. Just my two cents.:)

I've got about 600 songs on my iPhone. I keep meaning to try it during a tournament or gambling, but I haven't yet.

Good post. Practice in hostile environments all the time. Practice with the radio playing annoying commercials, practice with your wife/girlfriend complaining/nagging nearby, practice with the kids throwing stuff and the baby crying.

Why someone would want quiet practice when they typically play in hostile environments when the chips are down is beyond me. Next thing ya know, they make another "this guy sharked me at league by yadda yadda."

I don't care if someone screams in my ear now. If I miss, I missed it. I wasn't sharked. You're only sharked if you're not conditioned properly.

iTouch with 16GB of music including Jazz with Sony in-the-ear noise cancelling headset ... it doesn't matter what they are blasting in the jukebox as I live in my own world.

I love the music on when I practice, however, if I'm really working on a particular facet, I think I make better progress if it is quiet.

I have a ton of albums on my iphone and I love hitting shuffle and seeing what will come next.

I got a program called "power hour" I downloaded after I got my iphone unlocked and it plays 1 minute of the middle of each song randomly on your iPhone. I love it.
