My 14.1 Book

I am looking forward to purchasing this book. I'm glad you might be able to go ahead with the project.
Looking at the first diagram I came up with the same solution as Mr Jewett. I thought this was an easier solution.
Some books have lines on the pictures of the table. These lines connect the diamonds. I find these lines make it easier to replicate the set up when I practice. I think this is just one click on the Wei table set up.

Blackjack-
I am eagerly anticipating your new book! I too had some thoughts about the position of the balls in the diagrams, but quickly realized that you were really asking about how the balls look. I spent 10 minutes here with adobe illustrator and with just a little work produced images that I like infinitely better for a few reasons:

*you must make sure that your graphics have appropriate resolution AND are anti-aliased
*I would suggest changing the font to something sans-serif - my example below uses arial, but there are many options that are very readable
*text must be anti-aliased!
*I really object to using two different font sizes for balls 1-9 and 10-15 - most noticeable inside the rack
*I vastly prefer empty white balls, mostly because white text on black background is tiring to the eyes (subconscious to most, but known to graphically inclined). This is made worse because your stripes balls have an even smaller font. Also because its straight pool and the numbers are only there to go with your text (stripes/solids don't matter).

Here is an example graphic paired next to one of your original graphics. Again this is 10 minutes of work, so with tweaking, could look even better. Note that its the same native resolution as your images, but presents much nicer.

We can take the discussion offline if you want to get more technical, I would be happy to help out in any way that I can. Although I am not a professional graphic artist, I did stay at a Holiday Inn express last night.;)

I concur with ^^^.

The solid either black or white balls with a uniform size and identical font number is preferable.

Different font sizes would be a constant distraction.

Normal or special cuetable?

I notice you are crediting www.cuetable.com in your diagrams. Specifically, the background is without their standard logos.

Do you edit the standard cuetable.com drawing or do you have access to additional features? I would prefer an underlying grid.

The balls appear to be sized appropriate to a 9' table. That is 6 balls per diamond. This is helpful in communicating concepts.

I am interested in the book content and your thinking. Have you a rough idea on price?

I look forward to purchasing this book, which I'm sure will be excellent.

I can't wait

I am sure it's a monster of knowledge, which equals power - or does it? Good luck selling the book. Any one who helps to promote the game of 14.1 is in my book ok.

I don't know if you guys noticed, but this thread is from 2007. I wonder what ever happened to this book...

Your choice of title is very good. I'm not sure there isn't even a better title. I have been playing 14.1 and I find I still learned a lot from your posts.Your book may be the most informative and detailed 14.1 book ever. Thanks for sharing it..

I believe this book is on hold for the time being. Chapters or outlines were written and a short version was shared with some top European players and they passed it around there club and so there are copies of a partial around and I think this upset Blackjack. I would definitely be in line to buy a copy if and when it is completed.

Blackjack has been going through some issues with his health and that cannot do anything good when it come to writing a book either. I played some with him a few months back in El Paso and he still has the passion for the game and loves to share his knowledge, I would reccomend a visit to any who have the time.

NO. I believe Blackjack said he will not be completing this project. I terrible loss for all of us.

That's to bad. I know that his book Lessons in 9 Ball really upped my game...
