I was impatient waiting for my custom to get finished and wanted to play with an Owen cue.
Came across a damaged Shurtz Cue Butt and ironically, the seller was in Wichita.
I asked Bob if he could repair the cue, make new shafts and switch the joint.to flat ivory.

The cue arrived last Friday and I went straight to the pool hall to find out........
I am not disappointed........I am not ambivalent..........I am not enthusiastic.........I am in love with the feel of this cue's hit.

Bob signed the cue with the original year of manufacture and added the actual refinish completion date which turned out to be my son's birthday......April 4th. That just made the cue a little more special. Now I am going crazy waiting for my custom and Bob and I agreed no more progress photos would be exchanged again after I received the initial photos of the veneers. So I have an enormous itch right now and the only thing that will stop it is when that cue get here.

Meanwhile, here are some photos of my 1st Owen cue.......note there's only 5 cues right now in my 6 x 12 case........in another month or so I hope it will be filled.

Doesn't sound like you had a chance to hit with it before the joint swap. Wonder how much a diff that made? Regardless... Good looking cue(s). Thanks for sharing.

It Hits Really Solid Too.....

Thanks Marc........Last Friday Bob told me the butt sleeve inlays for my custom were being cut and so I'm anticipating by Memorial Day or sooner for its likely arrival.
It's hard to be patient when as agreed, the progress photos stopped with pictures of the veneers. It makes you feel like a kid again waiting for Xmas to get here.

Doug, you make a great point about the before and after feel of the cue. Personally, I switched strictly to ivory joints awhile back and that's really the only cue joint I'll buy.
Here's a group photo of my cues....the Stinger Break Cue was removed to make room for my next custom Owen underway. As you can see, ivory cue joints dominate my small collection.

Wow!!!

I love all your cues but I like the mottey and Scruggs a lot let me know if you ever want to sell them:thumbup:

itzel10101............1st crack at the Scruggs is yours but Badbeat got in line before you for the Mottey.

As you can see, I don't flip much......the cues I had along the way to get here was a Richard Black,
Schon Ltd., '76 Joss West and '93 Josswest (ivory joint)......what I have now I'm viewing as keepers
but one never really knows. After my custom arrives, I'd like my next to be a Level 6 Ed Prewitt Cue.

Even though I do not contemplate having to sell a cue to make that happen, who knows. Maybe there'll be
a Tibbits or Hercek Cue come up at the same time and then I'd have to sell something in order to get 'em all.
And trust me, I would flip cues to make that deal happen. I don't mind moving up to the penthouse of pool cues.

Cue with the green veneers is the bomb!

Nice collection matt, you won't be disappointed with a top level Prewitt. He built one to my exact design and it was a beauty.
