My BCA Vegas Experiences

Wow what a week. I am just now catching my breath and getting a little rest. I want to say thanks for the amazing photos (I am very impressed at how fast you got them all up :). I also enjoyed seeing you again and meeting everyone. I have a paper I have to get out this week, but will try to also get my photos up. I really love photo post #47...it's what I would call a gorgeous fuzzy.

Everyone from the NW failed to get in the money? I'm not sure what tournament you are referring to, but I thought the NW was well represented at the BCA Nationals. Jackie Fitchner from Oregon took second in the women's masters; Sherry Griffin of Washington placed third in the women's seniors singles; Suzanne Osborne of Edgewood WA won the women's players members division and Mary Hopkin of Washington took third in the women's open. And those are just the players that finished in the top of the fields.
I was really proud of how strong of a showing the Northwest had, and of the Canadian team that took second in the womens' masters team (even though they beat us) - they played great!

Joanne,bev,cindy,colleen,kathy played great,just did'nt do it when it mattered.BUT,AND I MEAN BUT, that team that won it was on their game ,they played soild.Congrates to them.

I stand corrected. I was referring to the men and wasn't really following the women. I am very glad for Jackie, Sherry and Mary and will have to congratulate them. I don't know Suzanne, but that was a great finish too. I was not aware that they had placed that highly, since I was not following anything but the men after a certain point. I apologize and agree that we actually fared very well. I was just amazed that our Grand Masters Mike and Danny did not fare better. But of course, the field was loaded with talent, as were all the fields. And of course, the Canuck teams always do well. I sweated part of the Women's NW Master's team (Cindy, Liz, Mary, Andrea, and Kathy) against them but left to play one-pocket before finding out the outcome. I take it you were on it? Congrats to all.

BTW, is there any way to find the results of the BCA? It's not on their website and AZB doesn't have them either.

I use a Canon Powershot S2 IS 5MP I got a few years ago. It has a 12x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom, but of course, you get the grainy Gerda photos when you go that far. If you can see the shot of the venue, Gerda was playing on the far tables, so it was a wonder I got anything. If there is any motion at all the pics will blur, especially with the zoom.

I had brought a monopod, but never brought it with me to the event, but it probably would have helped due to breathing and operator motion.

I would like to get pics like JCIN, but I think that would require very expensive equipment, more knowledge (my settings are all on auto :p ), and probably closer seats to the action, as we were sitting way up in the bleachers.

Even Mitch introduces her on ESPN as Ewa Mataya Laurence. She got famous as Ewa Mataya, so it makes some sense.

You did a great job in the 3-cushion competition. When you tried the jump shot and barely missed after a few tries, Jeanette Lee tried to stir up the crowd when she said, "Come on everybody! Who wants to see this shot go?" When you raised your hand, everyone got a good laugh.

The whole show was entertainment at its best.
 
Atwell & Respect

Atwell was jealous as he did not make any money. He was jealous of many people down there as he thinks he should be the only one to make money. i lost respect after his comments over this............

The event was great. Alot of action for those who wanted to partake, It was well run period. It is the best amateur event in the world. The western BCA is also pretty good but not as great......................

I know he was upset about not being able to play in any minis. Being a Grand Master limited his ability to make money. The women Grand Masters were allowed to play in the Open if they gave up a game, from what Glenn told me, however, he was not allowed to play in the Open and give up a game or 2.

And I agree, BCA is well run and those folks put in a lot of hard work. VNEA was great too, the only time I went.

By the way,B.C.A. is very well run.It's as fair as any league out there if not MORE.
