Well, everyone is doing a DCC thread, why not me? Well, let me just say that my DCC experience is only possible because of Justin and Chad with the Action Report. They invited me to come down and help them and all i can say is wow, these guys go through alot to bring the action to everyone at home. The amount of time, effort and hassle (often from external sources) that these guys put into this venture is amazing, not sure if i could do it all the time. They're great guys and hopefully will continue to blow up.
Ok, well, i guess i should start with the venue. I can see why Greg decided on giving the Horseshoe a chance with the DCC. It does have the room, atleast for the most part. The action room could have definitely been bigger, but room for the fans in the tournament rooms wasnt too bad. The biggest complaint I heard from people is its location. The casino is basically in the middle of nowhere, so unless you want to drive a little ways, you're stuck eating at the casino, which of course can be expensive if you dont want to eat the hot dogs 3-5 times a day. I honestly cant give any input on the actual casino, as i never even made it down there, which i'm definitely not complaining about. My biggest problem was the distance from the hotel to the tournament and action area. Its not bad if you do it a few times, but doing it 3-5 times a day can get annoying, especially when you dont want to or cant wait on the golf cart shuttles they have. I was fortunate enough to meet the owner of OB cues and spent alot of time talking with him, he's a great guy and I can honestly say he is a man of integrity and whole-heartedly supports his products. I went down to his booth a few times and feel that the vendors could have been set up a little better. Overall, i think the Horseshoe could possibly work if a few changes were made. It basically comes down to me having faith in Greg and Diamond Billiards to bring us a great event, as they always do.
Now for me, the best part of this trip was getting to see old friends and meeting new ones. Unfortunately I dont get to make it to too many tournaments, so it was great to see guys (and girl) like Jason Kirkwood, Sparky Farrell, Scooter (my vote for the Louie Roberts Award) and Sarah Rousey again. Some guys that I'm really glad i got the chance to meet and hang out with are Brandon Shuff, Oscar Dominguez, John Morra and Sylver Ochoa. These young players are all great guys who truly love the sport and have their heads on straight. I can honestly say this trip would not have been the same if it weren't for new found friends like Fed "The Cornerman" Agnir, the beautiful Ms. Katy, Mr. John "Big Pimpin" Mars, Will AKA ibuycues, the lovely Kathryn Fairchild, Ktown (dont forget, peach moonshine next year), Fatboy, my buddy DJ, and anyone else who allowed me to be part of their DCC experience, including the fans watching at home. Sorry if my commentating wasn't the best, i was in awe the whole time of the people around me and the opportunity that was given to me. I really did wake up every morning (or evening) wanting to get on the computer and see who all was watching. I'm normally the one on the computer 24/7 and I know how hardcore you guys are. Thanks for letting me be part of your viewing experience without telling me to get my ass off the mic. It will be a trip i'll never forget and i hope that future DCC's are even better.
