Just got back last night and have about 20 hours of work to catch up on. Was there for the whole 9 days and had a ball. This is NO replacement for Johnston City; It is MUCH BIGGER & BETTER.
Best One-Pocket Game - It was either Fri or Sat of last week that Efren gave Cliff 8 to 7 on the TV table and it will go down in my mind as being the best One Pocket Game I have ever seen. I have always thought that Buddy & Nick played the best I've seen - BUT - This EFREN is playing on another level I've never seen or imagined. They played a race to 11 for $15K but the total bet was around $35 to $40K. Efren won 11 to 5 and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. His Nickname is truly deserved!
Best 9 Ball - This would be a toss up between Marcus Chalmut (?spelling?) & Little John. 10 ahead for $10K (over $25K w/ the rail) and John was getting the 6 and the last three. At one point John said that he would quit pool if he lost at this game. He was 7 ahead at one point but couldn't take it off. Marcus played super to come back & get the cash. I got a little pissed off at Chalmut the next day when we were talking about the match. He quoted Little John's comment about quitting pool and said this is a typical American comment & attitude. I looked him right in the eye and said - "Yes, maybe you feel that way but at least in this country, you are free to say something as STUPID as that anytime you feel like it".
Another 9-ball match I watched and couldn't believe was between a really good (and maybe great someday) player from Indiana. This 17-year-old kid from Canada (???Name???) gave up the 7 & 8, race to 10 for $2K & won. Then gave up the 6 & 8 and won another 10 ahead. I don't know this kids name but I'm SURE we all will pretty soon.
The St. Louie, Louie & OHB poster was a huge success. Over 30 were sold and I'll bet over 200 people were able to read it as it was on display & for sale at Mike Maloney's booth. Scott Smith was very nice to announce the availability of this one of a kind poster and also did a fantastic job in general. Buddy was very helpful and always available to personally sign the poster. It will be going up on eBay next week.
What I was worried about as far as my playing came true. "I Shit In The Chili" in my one pocket match and "Pooped In The Popcorn" in my one pocket mini. The mini shouldn't count though because after winning the first game I noticed a player who I had beaten out of $1,400 the night before watching very intently. For the $25 entry fee, I saw a great opportunity to have him see what he wanted. Sure enough, he lost another $600 about 2 hours later. I know now that I'll never get used to the Tournament pressure. I have "No Problem" playing for the cash (as long as I have at least 10 barrels) but I'll never get used to getting beat while I still have cash in my pocket. I guess at 58 - It’s too late to change.
Got a lot more but - not now.
