Here's to all those consistently inconsistent players out there!! Careful if you poke us w a stick. We might just decide to open up a can of Whoopass!! Lol.Same for me. Being consistent is the most difficult part of pool.![]()

You were smart enuf to know where your strength and weaknesses lie. A man's got to know his limitations. Most players don't have that insight into their game. It goes no further than ' I don't like this or that shot bcuz I'm weak on them.'I never had a Fargo.
Honest truth, after watching many many Fargo rated matches here’s what I’ve came up with.
When I see 650’s playing I see some holes in their pattern play and in general more misses and mistakes than I make(made in the past).
When I watch 700’s play I see more consistency than I could sustain for more than a few good days here & there. 725’s would flat rob me.
When I see 675’s on average I see where I landed on average when I played my best. Have I played 725 speed? Sure for a set here and there I have, but not day in and day out.
Consistently I’ve played inconsistent. Which is bad, I appeared to play stronger as I did. That was a problem when matching up for years for me. I play so bad somedays it doesn’t make sense. Oddly I’m the same with backgammon as well.
These days I haven’t played enough to come close to knowing where I land. It’s much weaker than before, as I haven’t played much the last years.
That’s the whole book on me,
Best

Hahaha I love that flyer. Anti 8ball bigot!!View attachment 820563
I'm back in Philly. I went to the pool hall right after landing and got action. I made this flyer on the plane, and had one guy meet me. ha ha.
Just cheap 20 sets with a guy I played a few times before, that is really trying to get better and is matching up with everyone. He's a 497 with about 1000 games. I'm a 577. I told him to pick the spot, whatever he wants. So he said 1 game on the wire to 5, and if I win bad, then 2 games. I said ok. We played the first race my 5 to his 4 games. I won 5-2. Then we played a race my 5 to his 3 games. I won 5-2 again. We didn't put it on Sollato, but my performance was 636. This was on a 9' Diamond with new cloth.
Anyway, the reason I wrote this is when I played Rachel a couple months ago, she and a friend of hers both helped me with the break afterwards. During that match, I was making a ball and stopping the CB to the center of the table fairly well. So I didn't think anything was wrong. But the gal watching us (a 610 speed player) said I never had a good shot on the 1, because it was ending up on the bottom rail. I honestly didn't notice it the whole set. I mean I noticed I didn't have a good starting shot, but didn't realize I could fix it. Rachel showed me her break, and she was drawing the CB back all the way to the end rail and out, so it would come down with the 1. (this was all on the 7', where I played her that night).
Fast forward to a couple nights ago, and I tried it during a real match (on the 9') with the 497. I was still making the wing ball almost every time, but now I was getting super good shape on the 1. I had chances to run out almost every rack, which was a great improvement over before. I did end up breaking and running 1 rack, which for me on a 9' Diamond is a big deal.
I do think this might be an actual impromvent in my game. I never really cared about the break before, because I figured I missed at least once a game, so it didn't matter. But now I'm to where if the balls are laying real good, and the stars align, I might have an occasional B&R, especially on a Barbox.
Maybe this better break might win me 1 more game out of 15 that I would not have won before. IDK what that's worth in FargoRate speak, but I do think I will go up a few points due to it. Wish me luck![]()
Rack on the other end of the table.I got clobbered by a 667. We played races to 7 for 50. I get all the breaks. 7' Diamond, magic rack. He beat me 5 sets in a row. First set was 7-0. Second was 7-5. The next 3 were 7-2/3 range.
I never gave up, always felt I was in it.
The break I was so proud of a couple weeks ago was not working well for me today. ha ha. I scratched a few times. I made a ball the vast majority of the times, but didn't have a good look at the 1, it kept ending up on the end rail. And when I broke perfect, I screwed up the out. I think I only had 2, maybe 3, break and runs in the entire session.
After we quit I practiced the break about 20 minutes. Still wasn't working great.
Of note, the spot was bad on the table, and I had trouble racking even with the magic rack.
I've got the fire again... I want to go back and play more.
Sounds like you are a glutton for punishmentTrust me he came with his best game. He missed 3 shots I believe the entire session. I've played him several times before. The breaks was my idea, since I thought I had perfected it a couple weeks ago
I'm going to practice the break a bunch more on a different bar box and if I feel better about it, I'm going to try this game again another 5 sets at least.
You boys know that saying "I didn't lose, I just ran out of money"? That's how I feel in a way. It didn't work the way I expected so I didn't have as many opportunities as I should have. (In my head, anyway!)
Wrong approach, imo.Trust me he came with his best game. He missed 3 shots I believe the entire session. I've played him several times before. The breaks was my idea, since I thought I had perfected it a couple weeks ago

I played in my first tournament that reported Fargorate a couple weeks ago. I was not avoiding them, just none were available. It was a local Friday night event, with short races to 2-3 or so depending on fargorate. I think I played three matches, winning one and losing two. After 9 games, I'm at 386. I felt I could have given the 2 players that beat me the 7 ball. Such is pool
Two of my buddies that I used to gamble with daily about 20 years ago are in the mid 500's, with approx 400 and 600 robustness. They are the only players in my area I played even with at any time in my life that are in the system. However, none of us have the pool "bug" like we did when we were coming up, as we are in our mid 40's now. Based on this, I think I will end up at 565 if I ever get to a few hundred games. I'll update if I get more games in the system.
Maybe I can match up with people and say I'm a 386![]()
I know you are late to the thread, and don't expect you to read it allThat is the thing. You do not have an Established fargo rating until you get a certain about of games in the system. Is it 200 games? I am not sure. Might be 2000. Wait until you get Established, and then you will know your real Fargo rating.
