My first apa 8 ball win!

I know this is probably not a big deal to most on this site but it was huge for me. I just recently started playing league and I was horrible! My first 3 matches in a row were terrible! The last loss I had was a scratch on the 8 and because we have 8 people on our team I've had to live with that for the past 3 weeks. I knew I was much better than this in practice but when it came time to shoot league I would just let my nerves get the best of me. These past 3 weeks I had really been putting in the practice and faith that it would eventually pay off. Last Monday not only did I get my first win but also got two patches with snapping the 8 on the first break and with winning the second game I got a rackless as well. Just wanted to share

Congratulations. It is always great to see practice and hard work pay off. Keep practicing and hopefully soon some of those better players will be chasing after you.

Congrats to you, I went through the exact same thing when I started APA league last summer (Sans the patches, didn't get my first patch till my first match this year with a break & run). I started as a 4, after my first 3 losses on stupid shots, got moved down to a 3 then started wining against some really solid 5 & 6 players. Before I knew it or felt I deserved it, I was a 6. I'm growing into this handicap rating and aspire to be a 7 before the year is over. I know it will require a lot of work and dedication, but I also know that it will never happen if you're not willing to do what most people won't do. Happy shooting & welcome aboard!!!

Yeah, welcome aboard, but you could have used some more creativity with the username:wink:

Congrats on the first win and welcome to the site! You may as well go ahead and get you a bucket and set it by the front door for all the patches you are gonna end up with. I started out using a large butter tub and it filled up fairly quick !!!

Winning is fun, but as you progress and get better, don't forget how to be a gracious loser when the "pool gods" are just not on your side on any given night.

Congrats I won my first 8-ball and 9-ball in APA last week as well. Wonder how long it will be before my level goes up.

Congrats-Improvement to the point of wins is what keeps us all fired up. Feels Good, huh?

well done!. the apa takes alot of heat on the forum (some it from me) in regards to the handicap system but it's a good spring board to get better. latch on to the better players in your area, be nice to them, and they just may start showing you things. keep up the good work.

Congradulations!!

Its never an easy match down in Joliet, so well done and keep it. Give yourself some props and try to watch some of the monsters down there every week and you will improve A TON in no time flat!

Have fun, kick A$$, and hope you make it to COC!

Congrats!

I tell all of the new league players I encounter that they are going to be very frustrated, lose more than they ever expected, and to be very patient and open to instruction in their first season.

I do give you a bit of advice. When you are not actually playing a match on your league night, it will do you wonders to sit and watch, even score, when the higher skill level players play. If you can sit with a SL5 or higher and "commentate" the game back and forth you will gain far more than being on another table practicing/playing with others.

I had 3 brand new evenly skilled players last session. Two of them would simply play on the practice tables all night long, while the third would sit and watch every match with SL5s or higher. This season the gentleman who "watched" is now 5th in top-gun points and has a winning percentage of 83%. The other two have 3 wins between them, because they still haven't learned the game.

Congrats on your win! It does feel good. I was in the exact same position as you. Just started in an APA 8-ball league. Started off badly, and had real problems with nerves. Now, after some weeks, nerves are a bit better. I've seen that even the best players don't always win, and my teammates have had their share of losses too. Now have a 50% win rate, including wins against higher-ranked players. My goal is to get to APA SL4 by the summer.

Playing a 10-ball tourney this weekend. My first ever tourney. Wish me luck :)

Ha, that's so ironic because I was racking my brain at the comp to come up with a clever name. Any guesses as to what my first choice was Mr.pooladdict:wink:Saw that it was already taken and came up with pooladdiction. I don't have a nickname, although before my win the nickname "The Secretary" was being thrown around because all I was good for was score keeping. It was all in good fun though.

Thanks man! I appreciate it. My teams working on it. We're currently in first place but we all know that can change. You're not kidding about there being some good shots around here either. The good thing is you can play against quite a few of them for cheap seeing that there are $5/10 tournies almost every night of the week somewhere. Hopefully see you at coc

You'll be a 4 in no time. Winning feels good and when something feels good you just want to do it more and more. Go with it.
