My IPT opinion!

Hello players,

I've been and avid az forum reader for some time now. I've always had opinions about pool but as of now have kept them to myself.
I'm a little shy so go easy on my first post. I know I'm walking into a minefield giving my opinion about the IPT, So here goes:

As a fair player myself I've been seriously considering forking out $2000 and attempt to qualify for the majors. My desire to be a great player has been rekindled once again thanks to the IPT, however $2000 is not candy money. Here are the reasons I won't play:

1. Unlike poker, pool is all skill and I know I would only be making up the numbers.
2. If by chance I did win I'm not confident now with all thats going on that I would in fact get paid.

Whilst I think pool has gained some great exposure from IPT with never before seen prize money. There is nothing worse than telling people to hang around all week to get paid and when that day comes they get a slap in the face and are left wandering how they will pay for the hotel bills. This is very disrespectful towards the player it's a mockery. Forgive me for losing confidence in the IPT

Now that Kevin T wants to sell out to Mr Ho, that gives more reason for alarm.

As we know not many have showed for the qualifying stages. Maybe I'm not the only one with these thoughts


Now Remember! before you go on the Kevin T defensive' I am just giving my humble Opinion.:)

It sounds like you have analyzed the existing conditions and made a rational decision to me, one that you are entitled to make without being criticized for.
 
I have a very strong feeling we have seen the last of the IPT tournaments. I think KD will do a cut and run due to the minimal support of entrants in the qualifying stages. Also I'm very suprised wit h the fact that no one representing the IPT has come forward to explain what is going on. And add to the account IPT website has not been updated since this debacle. This is very unproffesional. Things don't look good.

I do however feel sorry for the middle men like Deno and Mike Sigel who i'm sure are being pounded with questions and are taking all the flack.

I know this post is very depressing for those hoping to make a comfortable living through the IPT but I think this could be reality. I think it's over.

ps: I have been wrong before and I hope I'm wrong now. :(

All the results from the 10 qualifying tournaments held 15-17 Sept are updated and today is the 18 Sept so what other updates of the site were you expecting?:confused:

The IPT website is being updated but not as regular as it was recently. However sadly you summed up where I'm at at the moment.

I've heard the Chicago event could even be at risk but I doubt this. I think the IPT will limp on to the end of the year pushing out as much positive spin as neccessary. They will then have plenty of product in the can and 6 months to generate revenue and hopefully bring sponsors on board.

The fat lady isn't singing yet but she's warming up out back. I think she might have to wait until this time next year before she gets to hog the stage though. Lets hope somebody saves the day and she gets the boot! :(
 
Ah the webmaster is just taking a well deserved vacation in the Bahamas and no one else is versed in how to run the website.

Or, as Elvis always said, keep them asking for more.

But on the other hand the player rankings have been updated to reflect the amount of money that each player has won.

I suppose the website is too complicated, and too in depth for you to have noticed that. Or else you convienently skipped over that.

Besides, the IPT is located in Bears land, and when da Bears play everything else comes to a standstill. Nothing is more important than rooting for the Bears.

They are 2-0 now. On the way to another championship.

What's this? You are predicting that the IPT will last for another whole year? With the players making big bucks for 12 more months? Surely I must have misunderstood what you typed.

Yep you did since this there wont be any tournaments next year if this happens, why quit if there's no major events planned until July?

Hey I got an idea, they've told many of the players there will only be 6 events next year (I'm guessing they'll ALL be open events to) why not fill the first 6 months with world wide qualifiers for the 6 open events! Surely not, am I on the right lines, what you think Kevin, sorry I mean jake? :rolleyes:

I stand corrected. And I did miss that one, my fault. Lets hope we are back on track and I may enter a qualifying event yet.

TheOne. I hope your right and they do pull through. After all it is the best thing to happen for pool in a long time. :)

Looks to me like KT is minimizing loses while fluffing things up and looking for a buyer. I agree that Chicago will almost certainly take place giving six months of breathing room. Anything in the second half of next year will probably depend on a buyer and income generated in the first half of the year.

I'm still wondering if Mr Ho bought the tour or if that was a premature announcement. If he did, I would expect major restructuring to make the IPT viable from a business standpoint, something it shows no indication of being so far unless KT can negotiate a sell at far above apparent value.

I'm sure jjinfla Ahh I mean Kev has his heart in the right place:D And wants the game to grow but if I can give one peice of simple advice it would be pay the players when you say you will.

Jake, do you have copies of all 3 players meetings? Orlando, Vegas, & Reno? I spoke with an IPT player last night that said there is a drastic change from Orlando to Reno... in Orlando, the world was their oyster... so many things were going to happen... referral money, ALL games would be taped and could be found in Blockbuster & walmart to name a few.

Fast Forward to Reno and KT actually mentions something to the effect (haven't heard it and don't remember it verbatim as it was relayed to me) that "and if the IPT doesn't succeed, well at least we had a good time while it lasted." Something along those lines... That's a pretty big about face from Orlando wouldn't you say?

Why didn't you just say 1/2" from the end ....

Lots of information, and from the sounds of it, there is much negotiating and probably legal work being done now with sponsors, TV broadcasting
in various parts of the world, including Asia, Europe, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, with interest from South American countries and parts of Central America and Mexico. The dealings with Ho Interactive sound like a lot is going on, with a company of his going public before the end of the year, and for Ho Interactive to go public, and this is after the acquistion of the IPT.

Anyone that is interested, go to the IPT website, click on the right center
black rectangle that list the WO Player meeting, and go about halfway
through, that's when KT starts speaking. I think it is worth it to listen to it. I think that they have a viable business model from KT's description of where they are trying to go, with short and long range plans (limited now to about 3 years).

One point he mentioned I thought was a good idea is for you or your local Pool room to get people to signup for IPT membership, and get a $20 Referral fee. It get them in the loop, they can watch matches, get involved, want to watch matches on TV, might want to join a forum or two also. If a Pool room owner got 50 people to sign up, that's a $1,000 in their pockets.

I know the problems a business can have, especially if it starts growing fast, especially on an International basis, so I am reserving judgement
on the few delays currently, but this can work, and will work, but we all have to support it, and yes, probably have some patience sometimes until they can work out some problems. IT IS GOING TO BE THE BEST SHOT AT IT WE WILL EVER HAVE, SO YOU MIGHT AS WELL STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND TAKE YOUR SWINGS.

I agree though, if the checks don't go out soon, they need to clarify the situation, and state when they should be received.

Did you notice there was almost no applause when he was speaking? I got the feeling the players had heard the BS before and were less impressed. KT even sounded like he didn't believe what he was saying, he kept repeating himself and stuttering when making his points. He kept saying there was so much going on you players don't know about. I think that is what they were waiting to hear but it must be a secret I guess.

Kind of ridiculous what he said about the players basically going door to door trying to promote the IPT. This is supposed to be a multi million sports show with top professionals, not a bunch of high school kids trying to pay for a field trip. It sounded kind of sad and desperate.

I was told that in the past, KT was a charismatic speaker but that in Reno he looked tense and uptight during the meeting. Your assessment pretty much confirms that....

Hate to say it, but I have a sick feeling about the whole thing. Simply too inconsistent and disorganiized. If it was improving maybe i would feel better.
Oh well, it only effects a very small percentage of the pool world.
