Hey Davie I am glad you had a great time and am looking forward to getting the lesson we Red and I talked to him about when we were in Greenville for Shannons tourney, he has not called to confirm yet. Maybe he is only going to give lessons there instead of coming to Charlotte.
I overlooked it. I cant see how I did that in the massive wall of text. Go figure. You could've just answered the question in the end of your post without all the 'foreplay', but I see you're just that classy.
It sure sounds like you really enjoyed the lesson and learned a great deal!
My congratulations go out to Earl for making himself available for such a nominal fee. I am sure that many others will take you up on your lessons.
As far as who developed the OB-1 cue shaft goes, that would be Don Owen. Don and his wife Anita are business partners with my wife Mary and I. Don was already playing with a very early prototype when we met playing league. We became friends quite easily and began to hash out what we felt would make the best cue shaft. 5 years later we applied for our patent, and took the plunge. We have been growing the company ever since.
Mike Gulyassy is a dealer of ours who buys partials and fits them to his cues. I am not sure what joint screw he uses, but we probably do build a stock shaft that will fit it. Mike chooses to fit them himself as do most cue makers. Earl and Mike did develope the taper that Earl uses and have had a great success with it. Although I have not seen one personally, it is my understanding that Mike tapers the shaft very slightly from the tip all the way back to a few inches above the joint.
I have to admit, it very nice to see an upbeat positive post about Earl. I wish him all the best, and I hope he does well with his lessons. I might even have to plan a trip to get some lessons for myself!
