Just curious about something!!! Want to get a rating on myself! What do people here figure rating wise, a player who can play the ghost 9-ball and win 40-50% of the time? Ball in hand no magic rack on 9 footer with just under 4 and half inch pockets! I think I'm a B to B+! Whats your opinion!!! Thanks in advanced, all comments appreciated!!!

what do you mean 40/50% of the time?

Do you win 1/2 of the games or you win 1/2 of the sessions (race to 3? race to 11?).

I recently was surprised when I struggled to beat even the 6 ball ghost on similar shimmed pockets, and I always thought I was at least a B player. If you beat the 9b ghost as often as I beat the 6b ghost, either you're an A or I'm a C player :P

I dunno. I'd say you're definitely not worse than B. It's just a label anyway.

Joe Tucker's Rating System

This rating system by Joe Tucker is an effective personal evaluation:
1. Set up a 10-ball rack of balls (1 on spot) and break. All balls (1 point each) made on the break count. (If cue ball scratches, re-spot all balls and continue playing from the kitchen.)
2. Start with cue ball-in-hand on the table and pocket balls in rotation (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.).
3. On a missed shot, the rack is over.
4. Play a set of racks and add all pocketed balls into a total. The list below provides your general skill level.

10 Racks
30-35 D+
36-40 C
41-45 C+
46-50 B
51-55 B+
56-60 A
61-65 A+
66-70 A++

You're right, running out in 9 ball, even with ball in hand 4-5-6 games in a race to 9 or 11consitently is better than B level.

I think an A player beats the ghost in a race at least 2/3 of the time. I'd think you're a good B player, maybe B+ depending on your safety play skills. Do realize playing the ghost is only a measure of your offensive skills.

and how you take the heat-big difference between B & A players

Very important point! If you can beat the ghost in a race 50% of the time in practice, what is your % when someone is backing the ghost for... say $50 a race? Does it tighten your sphincter muscle or improve your focus and play?

I love the heat!!!!! My safety game is pretty good! I kick real good, always playing for sides of ball! As far as the Joe tucker drill, I'm not happy with that, I average 60 balls! No way I'm an open player:(

$50 i mite fall asleep. $5000 and i'm awake, usually 90% of the time i get up for the cash, last time i played for any real $$ $4K/rack I played scared and not to lose-i got robbed. for what ever reason that night everything went wrong, typically that dont happen, it calms me down. I almost got into a bad car accident the day before and that was on my mind, thats all i can figure happened that time.

I used $50 as a figure that most B playing mortals might think about a little. Now, if YOU had started this thread Eric, I'd have used

$4k a rack? I'd just have to get me some diapers.

Unless I was playing you. :grin-square: Then I know I'd have the

Yes, If after 100 racks of 10 ball, you average 60 "points" made, your an A player and can play with open level players.

If the CB scratches you DO NOT spot the balls the rack is over just like when you miss the shot the rack is over and the format is ten racks for this rating

These are my Joe Tucker 10 ball scores.

Funny, my back went out on me when I was doing his Guaranteed Improvement book in late 2008. I had many of the drills completely filled out and ordered a second book from him. Back still hasn't fixed itself:(

I'm definitely a C+ player, who on my best days can reach the low B level. Solid B players in 9 ball give me the 8 to 6 ball depending on where they are on the B scale.

A players can beat the 9 ball ghost and get the cash in the long run. A players give me the 6 to 5+7 balls depending on where they are.

Open players I don't play. There is no weight I have a chance at. (And believe me, I've gambled with lots of them in the past 15 yrs, so I don't make this statement out of thin air).

Hate to say it, but you are LOL. Post a video of yourself playing 3-4-5 racks in a row, would be a quick way to get more comments. Open is just a level over A, technically with how I learned my rankings. It would be hard to spot a difference between an A or A+ player and an Open player which is a step bellow Pro in a short race or even if the A was playing well.

You are actually worse than this according to the rules, the scratch is -2, I only see -1 in your log. ;):p
