My man Tang

With that backdrop, while in college in Chico, Tang and Hemmah hit a tourney there. I had my money with the local NorCal guys on Tang since they didn't know him. Although Billy Palmer took the tourney, I came out ahead. Thank you Tang.

I was at that tournament (Team Players, I think?) too doing cue repair and playing as well. I think it was back around 1993 or 1994. I have very fond memories of traveling around California hitting every tournament that came up. It was a blast!!! Northern California is AWESOME!

LOL Varsity billiards.. I think that place closed a few years ago

Yes, Varsity lost their lease and closed about four years ago. I helped the Markulis' sell all the equipment.

Wassup Teddy Bear,
Come out from undercover lately to rob someone. You and Joe Salazar got this good front going on. No one really knows how good you guys play.
Well, almost no one.

The week or so before the open I never saw Tang practice 9 ball. But almost daily he would come in early evening and either play some one hole ghost or Hemmah would bet him on his getting 22 in in 5. The bet would change according to how Tang was hitting them. What happened in the night I didn't know about as I was usually home.

When I left HT today Tang and Efren had been playing some 8 ball and were just getting started on a game of 1 hole. This will be a great weekend with Efren and Busta both in town for the 1st Sat of the month 1 Pocket and the 1st Sunday of the month 9 ball tournament. Throw in Tang and the usual group of top suspects from the surrounding areas and it will a helluva weekend!!

Too bad you missed the late night ring ten ball games with Effie, Parica and Morro. Good pool played here!

Can I get a One Pocket game? I like a friendly 40 or 50 a game action.

Thanks Teddy, glad to here you're keeping busy. The poker action has been good for a while now, but mostly these days I'm hitting tournaments. I've made a final table at the WSOP three years in a row. No wins - a 5th, a 6th and a 7th. Still good money.
Tang has got me interested in playing a little pool again. So I'll probably go with him to a few tourneys, like the BCA in Vegas this month.
And Bellagio has a good poker room!

Saw Tang play at Hard Times One Pocket tourney today. Of course it was going to be him and Efren. To bad they ended on the same side of the bracket in the semi's and one had to be eliminated. In a race to 2 anyone could win. Efren showed great respect to Tang by playing him safe and taking fouls. Efren as usual took home the first place prize. Great playing by both.

Thanks, I actually finished 7th in the Limit Hold'em event. It paid 42K. Interestingly, that's slightly more than first in the U.S. Open. First in my event paid 303K! Well maybe someday pool will be as big as poker.

At the Santa fe casino poker room in Vegas I was reading Poker Player news paper and i was reading through the poker tournament winners and saw your picture with a list of place finishers.

Here in Ohio, the Indian casino owners (along with city leaders and major corporations) are pushing to get casino here and if and when it happens, I really think that alot of pool room will close...

It would be nice to see a pool room in a casino, I haven't see one yet, but they sure do love having bowling allys....

I had a poolroom (Jay's Billiards) inside Hollywood Park Casino for nearly four years. After Churchill Downs took over they wouldn't renew my lease.
Too bad, it was going good. Eighteen tables, 14 TV screens, beer and wine and we were busy every nite. And packed on weekends, with good after hours play until 4 or 5 AM.
And the action was the best in LA. We regularly had 50 and 100 dollar One Pocket games. I played as high as 500 a game with Archie the Greek. Won 5,500 and then lost 3,000 after changing the game.

I would do it again if the situation was right.

Well Jay we've come a long way from playing $2 9 ball at Ye Billiard Den about 35 years ago. Heres to 35 more!!!!!!!

You shouldn't have a problem getting $40-50 game. There are quite a few one-pocket players in there but you will have to give a little weight to most.
I will play you anytime after Thursday for $50 a game, just pick a time and day.

Okay, okay another guy that robbed me. If I still owe you $10 from the last set, let me know, i've been meaning to straighten that out.

By the way, who are you?

Easy on the weight Wayne. It's tough to give it up on those tight pockets.
I don't think you and I ever played for more than 20 a game. Did you get that inheritance? Or maybe I'm starting to look a little soft. Either way, when I see you, you got action!
I'm out of work, so I guess I'll have to dust off my cue.

Jay before you get too excited about playing me, I think you have me mixed up with Wayne Boomer. I don't think we have played each other although we talked about it when you had your place. I play about a ball better than Boomer.

This is TALL Wayne. I know you! You won the USPPA tourney in Reno for 10K. Right!
You play GGGOOOOODDDDD!!! Probably way too good for a bum like me.
Maybe I need two balls from you. I may try you some 8-7 until I see I've got no chance. 8-7 and the breaks and you got me for a 100 a game. What do you say champion?

I've known Tang since 93'. We met at Hollywood Billiiards. To say the least, I have seen him play great many times. I am glad to see him playing again. He has what it takes to be a world champion, no doubt in mind! His attitude and demeanor, on and off the table, are exemplary. Great playing at the Open Tang! Peace! Pablo 'The Tarantula' Matheu :D

I've known Tang for a long time and always knew he'd be a great player someday. He practiced hard, still does, and when he commits to the game, he's tough to beat. He never gives up, no matter what the score is. I'm glad to hear he's doing so well outside of pool but I do hope that he gets back into the game because he has what it takes to be a champion. Peace, John.
