My New Billiard Room!

So, after 7 years of playing on my 9 foot Diamond Pro-Am (single slate) in my garage, I bought a new house big enough to bring it inside. The challenge was that the billiard room needs to be in the basement. :(. I called around and found a guy who would do it and he had great reviews. Juan Manuel at Pool Table Service DMV (Northern VA area) brought his crew in, disassembled and loaded up, drove about 2 miles to my new pad and had it installed in the basement and perfectly leveled in under 2 hours!

They showed up with no custom jacks or dollies, no winches, just strong backs. It was tough to watch...they slid the box and then the single piece slate down those furniture pads! No problem, no damage, they put it all back together and level without a blemish. It took the Diamond guys 3 hours to install it in my garage, these guys moved it and reinstalled it in under 2 hours. I highly recommend them.

Now I gotta figure out how I'm going to decorate this thing...starting with wall shelves, cue holders and spectator chairs. Then I'll see what wall art, etc.

Looks good! I found 2 barstools with cushioned pads and 2 without on the local marketplace. I'm waiting to order a bunch of pool related signs etc from Amazon. I bought a cheap narrow shelf table and will order one more so people have somewhere to put their drinks. Once I'm done I'll try and post a Pic.

Diamonds are the scourge of the earth. 😉

I bought mine in 2007 and have never looked back.
Very happy for you, I grin like a chicken picking bugs of a wire brush every time I see mine.
Have fun and thanks for the great pictures.

I moved a 9 foot diamond with several people and using 2 sets of webbing furniture moving straps that went to between a pair of chest harnesses like you'd use to move a refrigerator.

Gerting the slate over the side of the bed and up on edge with a set of guys with a strap at each end. Facing one anothet you adjust the straks to where going from slightly bent knees to straight up, you lift the slate. We shuffled it out of the home it was in to a covered trailer...then the same way to where it was in my pool hall.

In the pool hall I would move tables using a jack and large furniture sliders....2 guys could move a 9 foot easily. We rearranged the room this way several times. Nothing to it.

What a great story and outcome. It is astonishing how strong hard working skilled men can perform when put to the task.

Pros make the hard to comprehend tasks look like no problem.

That is the difference between professionals and wannabe’s.

Thank you for sharing!!!

Congrats! I remember finishing my basement when I lived in the Northeast and the first day that my table was installed - What a great feeling for you! I miss mine so much down here in Fl.

I've been dreaming about having a basement big enough to get a table for years. It came to fruition starting 10 months ago with a new house build and got my table. We finally moved in a week ago and started unpacking. It'll be a few more weeks till the basement is cleared out and I can get to living the dream.

George Fels -- a longtime and well beloved monthly columnist for Billiards Digest -- had a home table for many years, and I've always loved his supremely on-target, published comment on owning your own table and playing in the middle of the night:

"Nothing in the world beats the sheer pleasure of running racks of Straight Pool . . . . playing barefoot, in your underwear, at 2 o'clock in the morning."

George characteristically -- and with his ad-man background showing -- beautifully captured the imagery and exhilarating *feeling* of an experience that many of us who've had a home table know so well..

Arnaldo ~ I had my table in Vermont for 16 years. Then I got too old to endure the winters there. AZ winters are swell for me now, and I play in the community clubhouse - with shoes on of course. :giggle:

Must be an exciting time for you. Looks great!!! I think you are a little to far away to ask for an invite but I would be there in a heartbeat if you were closer.
