My new Paul Dayton - Hoppe style

I got this from Paul Dayton today. If you don't know much about Paul you are missing out. Paul has been into Pool from like forever (early 60's maybe late 50's). He spent much time in the same backyard as I did, Upstate NY at the same time but we had to wait until Florida to meet.

Paul Dayton comes from a background of ultra finiky on wood. He spent a lifetime restoreing antiques using the same glue, wood and finishes from the time period the antique was made. Though Johnny Archer has no fear of him Paul can hit a ball, I like that in a Cue Maker.

To be honest I had no intention of buying a cue. Paul took out of his case a cue that I failed to ask the year he made it. The Cue shows Pauls angle on how a Hoppe would be made in today's time. Since my first 2 piece Cue was a Hoppe, I had to have it. Paul had put the old white and green wrap on it which more went with the even older cues of that time. I asked Paul if he had a leather wrap that would better show the Hoppe style. He did so we made the deal (he had to build a new type leather jig just for this cue so I am proud to say it is a 1st and presently a one of a kind.

Two shafts do not make a cue unique but if anyone remembers the ship of maple pulled out of the water in the 90's, one of the shafts is made from that wood.

If you look at the joint you will see some dust. I left that on there to show the dust from a squeeze fit.

No inlays, it would take away from the natural beauty.

No, it aint for sale, you aint got enough money:smilewinkgrin:

Very nice looking cue.

I really like the veneer combination.
