My new Schmelke cues: pic heavy

I would be interested in seeing your cues. Fire away. I think I am going to start up another order pretty soon just because I enjoyed the last process so much.

Sounds good...might be late tonight or tomorrow.
I have a Widow with striped ebony, birdseye, an OB shaft, copper rings and joint pin.
It looks great and play even better.
I also have a purpleheart into ebony sneaky with ivory buttcap and joint, an EE wrap and a Jacoby Hybrid shaft. That one is my full time shooter.
When I come to them to build me a cue the gang in the back usually runs for the hills

Very nice cues, but I do not like the looks of the inlays (just my opinion). I think they would look very nicer without those inlays added. I love the G-10 Glass epoxy joint on the sneaky looking cue. That was always my favorite joint. And I love the joints and veneers on the other cue. The ebony looks really nice too. I think those cues would look so much nicer with some highly figured Birds Eye maple in the forearms though. Just out of curiosity, I wonder what that sneaky looking cue would cost without the added inlays.

Considering you'll NEVER buy one (or move to La. for that matter) why do you continue to chum/troll this forum? I think your favorite "joint" awaits you in Colorado but that would entail another story/troll about how you'd like information on Colorado pool action. BTW, let's see your cue so we can pick on it.

WOW. Looks GREAT. I've always said Schmelke does great work.

Just recently (2 weeks ago) they became a dealer for Magic Chalk.

So, with that being said, the first box of Magic Chalk is on the house. It will keep your new cue a lot cleaner as well

I mostly complimented the cues. Just do not like the looks of the inlays, and thought the cues would look much nicer without the added inlays. Just my opinion. Only thing that really matters though is how the owner feels about the cues. I did not mean to offend the cue company, or the cues. Just wanted to give my opinion about them (which was mostly positive I thought).

Please post a picture of this one, along with the specs: weight, balance, etc. I am interested in making something similar with purpleheart and ebony and I am wondering about how the weight will come out.

I have a Players "snooker" shaft that I also use on it when I play snooker, I mean I will. I haven't used this cue for snooker yet. I do notice a difference from my other cues but I can't say it's the joint. All my other cues are 3/8x10 and this one is as well. This has some significant differences to what I am used to. Stiff taper, hard tip, no bumper, glass pin so it is probably a combination of all those things, but this cue really sings. Has a distinct ring on the hit, which I do love and for me I prefer the feel. I also like putters with sound slots and only fine milling so the acoustics are not dulled. If you are a golfer you might know what I'm talking about. The firm feel to me is real feel.

I don't have one handy, but I will get one up in a bit. It's actually pretty rough. Looks to be filler and stain. I might work on that a bit. Maybe drill some out, fill with tinted epoxy resin. They were up front with me about their limitations to gracefully finishing the bumperless part so I can't hold it against them.

Justin is free to his opinion, and I respect that. He just has a dubious history with posts and cues and derailing threads. I welcome all comments 50/50. The point of posting my new cues is to provide insight to the community about the possibilities when ordering from Schmelke and to answer questions others might have that haven't yet embarked on a similar venture because they are still undecided. It is also to follow up from a previous thread where I commented to other posters that I was having a cue made and would post up when it was through. Easy peasy. ABC 123.

Well, I think I'm going to pull the trigger.....I don't mind my stainless steel for pool...
...but 3-cushion and snooker requires a different hit...thanx for the reply.

Golf...my first game...worked at a pro shop for six years when I was a teenager....
...my putter has to be a goose-neck mallet head....and I too like feed-back.

I got the impression he (Justin) dug himself a pretty deep hole by accepting a good cue at a really good price because he was "down on his luck" so to speak. Then a couple months later - SOLD the cue for a big profit. I guess he's had a hard time digging himself out of that hole.

Hopefully things can be worked out in time - people can change as they get older.

But ... back to Schmelke. I got a SP about a month ago - and while I'm very happy with the quality (especially the shaft) ... it does seem very butt heavy. I'm wondering if that's common with Schmelke in general. It's not that I mind it, in fact it reminds me of a few very nice house cues I used years ago. It's just that now-a-days, I tend to lean more towards a center-weighted cue.

(Those are some very sharp looking cues by the way)

Thank you, Ched. While I haven't measured precisely, I find the balance of the playing cue to be about an inch into the wrap when measuring from the joint. I find it to be pleasing. The break cue is a little further back, but I don't mind that on a breaker.

I bought 3 cues from them and had to modify the butt end. I was curious what they did to yours...seems both of us have the same result. They were up front with me. Here's mine. Have fun modifying yours.
