My opinion about Earl and what he is doing to pool...

So i read a bunch of posts about how people think Earl is good for the game, how earl generates interest in pool, how and why Earl should be on the cup team....

I KNOW Earl hurts pool, and he hurts it in the biggest spot, MONEY.
I have heard straight investors mouths that facts show people turn off the TV and stop attending events when participants act like Earl. Arguing with the crowd, cheating, confrontational with everyone, no concern for anyone in the room but himself...

Now there are some who will tune in to see this, but the majority do not.

In fact, i think I do more good for pool then Earl does.... Lets have a look:

What does Earl do good for the game:
1. Some people might tune in to see him lose
2.

What do i do that is good for the game:
1. I buy products. I but at least 4-6 cues a year. From production break cues to 5k customs. I have also helped friends and people new to pool spend they cash getting cues and cases.
2. I run tournaments, I encourage people to show up and play. And if someone starts acting like Earl i get them to calm down our out they go. Ive seen new players stop showing up due to azz's. So get rid of them and more players show up and pool grows.
3. I tune in. On TV and the internet.

Now things i see from Earl and other players who act like him has been pushing me to one thing, quit the sport and take up something else. Some might say go ahead and quit, no big deal. However people investing in billiards will care, i'm a 10k a year guy. If you take in the ripple effect that 10K probably goes upwards of 20k. There are lots of industries that would love my $$. I just entered my 40's and have some good years left on these tires. I do have to say 4 to 8 of my closest friends are getting very tired of how players like Earl act. So much so we are all considering selling off our gear and heading out to the golf course.

Just my .02

I do think if more professionals acted like professionals and not like Earl then the mens tour would be a lot further along then where it is now.

Watching Earl is embarrassing, as a pool player and a competitor.

What does Earl Strickland owe you? He doesn't owe anyone anything. Pool is in the state it is because 99.9999999994% of the population think watching paint dry is more exciting. Thank you Earl for letting us watch you run racks. Everyone knows how Earl plays. Either they decide to play him or they dont. Play the victim if you need to.

Hmmmm

lmao you know, if you were earl strickland, this would be perfectly acceptable because well.. you just can't help it!

lmao i'm sorry, i had to.

I knew "piksack" could not help himself. Why don't you go back and please read the post by Neil about Earl.....big difference between being a freaking troll and having to live with a valid medical condition that is tough to contrl.

Remember, if you keep feeding the trolls, they will come back.....

Earl can't hurt pool. As a matter of fact it is just the opposite. Pool has put a hurtin' on Earl and every other player who has invested a lifetime in Professional Pool.

Best post of this thread!

Some inferior personality types like to kick pool players around on this forum, making themselves feel superior. Meanwhile, they can't run a rack of balls, yet they claim they can impart their knowledge to pool guppies in hopes that people will take them serious.

They're the same kid that used to have the cooties in grade school, and now posting as an adult on this very pool forum, protected behind the monitor of their computers, they spew ugly words about the legends of this game.

They align themselves with forum bullies because that's the easiest crowd to fit into. They give money to a few high-profile forum members, so that these people will blindly defend their actions on this forum. Meanwhile, everybody else can see that they're nothing more than a PoS in real life.

I still pray for these lowlifes, realizing that they're unhappy in their lives back home. I am a woman of faith and recognize that it's these creeps who truly need the most help when it comes to prayer.

Nope, Mudball. I readily admit I can't run a rack of balls.

You're just a coward who hides behind the monitor and spews out nasty comments at will. I consider the source, coming from the likes of a forum member named "mudball" who is 27 years old and has only two forum friends. What a joke.

I wasn't so much concerned by your inability to run a rack of balls. What baffled me was how arrogant and superior you claim to be with your power of prayer, like you have to save everyone on this forum or some crap. What a joke.

27 years old? Ok you got me there. I don't come to these forums to troll, I try contribute to whatever discussions interest me. I don't try to create any waves (I'd hope my post history would prove that *shrug*). But your post was just silly and arrogant. With 261 posts compared to your 500,000,000 it's funny you say I'm the one who hides behind a monitor. I will work hard on reaching my quota of forum friends so maybe I can be included in your prayers.

Well, thanks for the well-reasoned reply instead of posting a cartoon. :)

I admit I am late to religion, but since my recent health scare, I seem to gravitate towards it more and more. It's truly not me trying to present an air of superiority, and believe me, I'm not trying to save the forum. Au contraire, I'm trying to save myself from thinking untoward thoughts and praying for those who I think as unhappy. Somehow I would rather think pleasant thoughts than ugly ones. It's easier to get through life this way.

It took me a long time to learn that. When I was 27, I thought quite differently about religion and a lot of things than I do today. Seeing my birth mother laying in a casket a few weeks ago smacks me in the face of reality that I will find myself in the same position someday. It's scary, but it's a fact of life we face sooner or later -- hopefully later. :p

My point in my previous post before your cartoon is that why would anyone come on a forum with malice aforethought and deliberately write nasty words about pool players, legends of the sport, over and over and over and over again -- on a pool forum, no less.

Of course, we are all entitled to our opinions, but, Mudball, if *you* were targeted and attacked by the same poster over and over and over and over again, even to the point of having threads created about you personally in an effort to cause hurt and/or anger to you personally, you may come away with a different opinion about my previous post. Prayer is the only thing I can fight back with.

And you got me there, Mudball, in that you are a long-time existing member, so touché. ;)

You have other options.

Thanks! :)

JAM your name should be broken record. Didn't know that's how women of religion write. pretty stylish. You must be very late to religion. Or maybe it's because your order is the Holy House Of Pool Hustler Groupies. Oh excuse me - "ROAD WARRIORS." Pathetic really. Can't wait for your next prayer.

Name-calling is against this forum's rules, but I guess you can continue to give money to others and have them defend your bully tactics on this forum, allowing you to continue to target and attack me and others at will.

Labeling a 57-year-old woman a "groupie" is pretty low class, especially since I've been with the same man for 10 years.

Is this the kind of lessons you convey to your students at PoolStudents-dot-net?

You should carefully read what you write sometime. You seem to lose track of the facts and who is calling who what.

It is *you* who should be careful not to call others "groupies." It is offensive, but I think that is how you meant it to be. It's a shame that you continue to write such mean-spirited things about others. I hope you don't do this in your PoolStudents-dot-net classes.

I will still pray for you and grant you forgiveness. :)

When I mentioned in another thread that there was a certain poster that hijacks every thread and makes it about them, you knew exactly who I was talking about. This is yet another example of that.

And, BTW, look up sanctimonious. Sheesh. Your post to quality ratio is in the single digits these days.

Tea for two, and two for tea.

I will continue to post in any thread I please, especially when it is expressing a counter opinion to those who continue to put down legnds of pool on a pool forum.

You are, however, entitled to think what you want about me. DILLIGAF?

Tag team is fun for some.

Your argument here has a relationship to science because you are putting an argument, or theory, on here to be discussed. In science, it is believed almost universally that for a theory to be valid there has to be a possibility that it can be disproven if wrong. Where you have gotten off track here is OVERGENERALIZATION. Please start by defining what POOL is and then we can discuss why Earl has hurt it. Do you mean the pool product industry? Do you mean pro tour organization? Rules? Television? Sponsorship? And related to modern sponsorship money is economy of scale, which is also related to television and other media. If you are being overly broad on purpose, discussing pool as something like a culture or even a religion, then the fact that we are even discussing Earl argues against his being a problem. The pool culture is richer because of him... not better, just more interesting, and the explosion of posts on him this week proves this. All these threads are going to start merging into each other like Dallas-Fort Worth. And Earl did that.
