My support the troops idea

Just a few days left here and I'll be on my way home for the last time :). Even though I'm getting out of the Army I still support my comrades 100%. I have gone to a few concerts over here and met a few celebrities, so I was always thinking it would be cool to get someone over here to do a pool exhibition/clinic. I think the biggest hurdle would definitely be table condition. You can find some in decent shape, but others leave a lot to be desired. It could probably be coordinated beforehand to have the table leveled/recovered before the event took place. I know that if someone were to do this hey would have plenty of interest. USO events always draw a huge crowd, and I'm sure it would be a very rewarding experience. Anybody ever looked into this?

The tables that we have here at Camp Eggers, Afcrappistan aren't that bad. Think Efren will come?

The only thing close to this I have seen was when I was in Germany and Jeanette Lee came out and did an exhibition at my home base Ramstein AB. Never heard of anyone ever coming out here to Afghanistan, though it would be a cool idea.

And you're right about the USO concerts there pretty cool. I'm fire dept so we usually get to be up front "in case something happens".

Here in Iraq we have a security firm that hires Ugandans to do base security operations. I know you're all wondering why the government contracts out a job that a soldier would traditionally do. Of course the answer is, the lowest bidder. It's much cheaper to have Ugandans do it for $500 a month. Anyways the point is that these guys are a big reason why the tables are in such terrible condtion in places. They are some of the worst examples of bangers I have ever seen in my life. They're also always crowding all the tables a lot, and I think it keeps a lot of the American soldiers away. I hate to be this way, but I really think they should give them their own, separate, MWR building. Or they could at least make some of the tables be "US military only".

Anyway, I think when people see some real world class play it really draws some people to the game. It's funny when people here think I'm so good when in my head I'm thinking, "You really haven't seen a real game of pool have you."

I was watching a match the other day on youtube. I think it was at Galvaston. Charlie Bryant was commentating, and I heard him say something about trying to do an exhibition for the troops in Iraq.

You are right they do love to play, I just wish they wouldn't abuse the equipment so much.

My first tour I didn't get any kind of entertainment since I was in the suck. Then last time I happened to be off duty because I was going on leave really soon, and Aaron Tippin happened to be giving a show so I went to that. This time I've been a fobbit on VBC, so a lot of entertainment comes here, but with my work schedule, Mark Chessnut was the only one I went to see. I was really hoping WWE would come here, but they went to Balad this year instead.

"Fobbit"....that term always makes me laugh.:grin:

I just got back from a tour in Iraq and Afghanistan. Got off the plane in September.

One of the very few things I will look back on FONDLY from that trip is the term "Fobbit." For the first month, I had no clue what anybody was talking about. Always makes me laugh.

I did the "mortar world tour" between 5 spots in Iraq and 3 in Afghanistan...and I wish you a VERY speedy return home. My warmest regards to you and everyone else over there...be they in the suck, or livin' the fobbit life.

All the best to ya, sir.

Mark

I'm an Air Force guy.

Still in...and still going through Rip-It detox. I must have gone through 7 or 8 of those per mission out there...mainly because they were easy to stow away in the Interceptor vest. If my math skills are still somewhat respectable...I drank about 140 cans of that crap.

After digging my family out of 5-foot snow drifts this month, 120 degree heat doesn't sound so bad anymore!! :)

me and my buddy ivey used to see how many of them we could take form the chow hall. that mother f*cker got 16 out one day. i forgot when but at one point the ugandans started stopping people from taking food from the chow hall. for 35 bones a meal (that's what i heard the gov paid to feed us per meal) i don't see why we couldn't take a few drinks with us

hay i just remembered i found a store that sells rip it's. it's food 4 less. i bought a tall can the other day for old times sakes. cost me $.85

And how much did the Immodium AD cost ya, after the fact??!! :) :)

I can't drink that junk anymore. It's good for a quick pick-up when necessary...but that's a particular taste I'll leave in the sandbox. I'm sure I'll be back there soon enough...and I'll just make up for lost time with the Rip-Its then! ;)

Happy New Year to ya, bro. All the best to you and yours for 2010.

I'm in the Wisconsin Army National Guard. I haven't drank a whole lot of rip-its this deployment. Last deployment when I was doing convoy escorts I used to drink them all the time. We even had one driver who would also drink 7-8 on an 8 hour convoy. I can just feel my teeth rotting out of my skull thinking about it.

Last time when I came home I also bought a couple of the big tall rip-its from a gas station for old times sake. I mixed them with vodka though before I drank them

I know Monica Webb and Vivian Villarreal went somewhere, I want to say Bosnia or somewhere a few years back and did an exhibition for a few days at a base. Someone can correct me because I know that isn't the exact right place. I think it is an awesome idea if you can find players that are willing. I'm sure getting some great American players to go would be good for the American morale. I am always open to doing stuff like that as long as there is someone else going along too.
