Ooooooo . . . .

I like that Scruggs. Not that the others are dogs, by any stretch of the imagination. But, that one reminds me of a Stroud design that I have been trying to track down.

Curious.....are you the original owner on these or did you buy them on the used market? Very nice cues.

looking good jay!

They are all so nice, it would be difficult to comment on just one. It's a pleasure (and a rairity) to see a really fancy Gus.

I am also glad to see that I am not the only one who likes old Paul Huebler customs. I especially like them when they are in my hands shooting pool.

Great collection.

I had the Barry cue made for me in 1992,it is the fanciest hoppe butted cue he made according to him. The other cues have all been acquired on the after market over time. Regards,Jay.

Thank you, I was hoping the Huebler would not get lost in this crowd! The playability of this cue and it's natural beauty earns it the right to be there. Regards,Jay.

What is a Maranda cue? It looks like a Filipino design. What are the materials used in that cue?

Gus cue

i know that talking about design after the fact with a deseased cuemaker is sometimes taboo but this cue should have notched diamonds also between the bigger mop circles in the butt sleeve to tie it all together. the theme of the cue would then stretch from cap to joint nicely. i still would take it as is though, duh. ;)

Still, the design is well balanced. It's a clean design because everything seems to be sized just right if you look at the overall cue. That forearm gets my vote as one of the most attractive classic styles I've seen.

The shapes may be different but the design is well balanced. If you look closely there is veneer connecting the dots - they are barbells. There is nowhere to put the diamonds except next to the barbells , then it would be busy. I think the diamonds break up the monotony of the dots in the forearm.

you put the diamonds in-between the 2 big mop dots in the sleeve so there is 1 big one above and 1 below. ahhh PERFECTION! :D

Wow!!

That's a very rare Barry with the rings in the butt.

Yes it is, Barry made me this cue in 1992 and used Gus' venners and black cortland for the cue. This is the fanciest hoppe butted cue he has made. I always liked mitered box points and was very fortunate that Barry made it just the way I wanted it with all the bushka rings and the inscription "made by B. Szamboti in one of the ivory windows. The picture only marginally reflects the beauty of this cue. Regards.

little busy! maybe drop the centered barbell in favor of the diamond
Much better pics of the cue on proficient billiards "cue gallery" look for Gus S. and click on bottom left cue. I too, had envisioned this cue with diamonds in the butt until I saw the 8 point Gus on "skins" rare szamboti thread recently. Actually, the response to that by "Barbara" ,even though its the same site has better pics of that cue. These two Gus cues are the only two that I have ever seen with that point configuration of two uneven barells separated by a diamond. I favor the butt on the four pointer because it is elegant and unassuming. The single line barbells are very attractive between the 3 veneer up and down gunsights. I personally think this cue looks more distinctive, and less llike a vintage Palmer as it is. Do you have an opinion on the unusual joint ring pattern? Rergards,Jay.

It is, Ivory, abalone, purpleheart and maple in a rosewood cue. Just had it refinished and re-wrapped . Workmanship is very, very good. Has a brass 3/8 flat face pin. Regards.
